Scandal Makers

Scandal Makers (Hangul: 과속스캔들; RR: Gwasok Seukaendeul; lit. Speedy Scandal) is a 2008 South Korean film written and directed by Kang Hyeong-cheol and starring Cha Tae-hyun in the lead role. This was director Kang's first film and the highest grossing Korean film of the year.

Plot

Former teen idol Nam Hyeon-soo (Cha Tae-hyun) is now in his thirties and works as a radio DJ. A young woman named Hwang Jeong-nam (Park Bo-young) sends stories about her life as a single mother to the radio station Hyeon-soo works at, telling him she is going to meet her father. He then finds out that he's her father when she shows up at his apartment with her son Ki-dong (Wang Seok-hyeon). She tells him that her real name is Jae-in and that her mother was Hyeon-soo's first love Jeong-nam. Hyeon-soo doesn't believe it at first, so they undergo a DNA test and the results confirm that they're related. Jae-in dreams of performing on stage as a singer, but Hyeon-soo fears that if she does, their paternity scandal might get out. Because of Jae-in's rising popularity, Ki-dong's father Park Sang-yoon (Im Ji-kyu) finds her. They meet and chat, with Sang-yoon initially under the mistaken assumption that Jae-in is romantically involved with Hyeon-soo. When Ki-dong later goes missing at Jae-in's performance, Hyeon-soo realizes that he really does care for his daughter and grandson.

Scandal (Shusaku Endo novel)

Scandal is a 1986 novel by the Japanese author Shusaku Endō. Endo was a Japanese Catholic writer whose works, among other things, covered various aspects of the Japanese Catholic experience. He was furthermore a member of the Japanese 'literary establishment,' accounting for the importance of PEN meetings in the work. Aging in Japan was also addressed via commentary on the medical problems suffered by an elderly man.

Plot summary

Set in Tokyo during the 1980s, it tells the story of an old Catholic writer struggling with old age and the feeling that he yet has to write his magnum opus. One day, a young woman shows up at a party attended by the main character, Suguro, mentioning loudly that he has not been visiting the ill-reputed street where she works as an artist lately. Because of his reputation as a Christian writer with high moral standards, such behaviour is seen by his publishers as very undesirable and by himself as very embarrassing.

He meets a young girl, Mitsu, telling him about enjo kōsai ("compensated dating"), and Suguro decides to hire her as an assistant to help relieve his rheumatic wife from such activities. As time passes he starts to dream about this young girl, but keeps silent about it so as not to worry his wife.

Scandal (EP)

Scandal is a self-titled, 5-song EP by the band Scandal, released in 1982 by Columbia Records. Although the EP has never been released on CD, all five songs are found on the VH1 Scandal compilation album called We Are the '80s. The EP's album cover photo of the five band members is also reproduced on the VH1 compilation's cover (with an updated photograph).

The song "Win Some, Lose Some" was written in 1979 and first recorded by Bryan Adams on his 1980 self-titled debut album.

Scandal (Kangta & Vanness album)

Scandal is a one-off album released in 2006 by Kangta & Vanness, a duo composed of Korean singer Kangta and Taiwanese singer Vanness Wu. Several of the songs on Scandal were recorded in both Korean and Mandarin, and two music videos were produced. The disc was released in South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Japan.

The Mandarin version of "Scandal" was nominated for Top 10 Gold Songs at the Hong Kong TVB8 Awards, presented by television station TVB8, in 2006.

Release and promotion

Scandal was recorded and produced in South Korea under SM Entertainment. Kangta & Vanness debuted the music of Scandal at the 2006 MTV Asia Awards in Bangkok, Thailand on 2006 May, during which they performed the album's title track during the ceremony closing. They officially launched the album at "The 1st Showcase Scandal" on 2006 May at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, at which they performed "Scandal" and "127 Days." On 2006 May, Scandal was released by SM Entertainment in South Korea. It contained five Korean-language songs plus the title track also in English. A music video for "Scandal" was released, which showcased a dance battle between Kangta and Vanness, and featured Korean singer Lina, from Korean girl group The Grace (band). Later, a music video for "127 Days" was also released, featuring Lina's bandmate Stephanie.

Make (magazine)

Make (or MAKE) is an American bimonthly magazine published by Maker Media which focuses on do it yourself (DIY) and/or DIWO (Do It With Others) projects involving computers, electronics, robotics, metalworking, woodworking and other disciplines. The magazine is marketed to people who enjoy making things and features complex projects which can often be completed with cheap materials, including household items. Make magazine is considered "a central organ of the maker movement."

Its first issue was released in January 2005, and as of March 2014, 38 issues have been published. The magazine is subtitled "technology on your time." It is also available as an IPad version and a Texterity digital edition on the Web, which is free of charge to existing magazine subscribers. The HTML-based digital edition allows for searching and includes additional content such as videos, with freely accessible blogs, podcasts and forums also available in the website. The digital edition also allows limited sharing of articles with friends.

Makers (album)

Makers is the 2006 release from Seattle singer-songwriter Rocky Votolato. It marks his debut on Barsuk Records after previously releasing albums on Second Nature Records. The album is characterized by sparse arrangements, focusing mainly on Votolato's voice and guitar work. Votolato's songwriting skills are on display in his most folk-sounding release to date.

Makers (novel)

Makers is a novel by Canadian-British science fiction author Cory Doctorow released in October 2009. It was nominated for the Prometheus Award.

The book focuses on a near-future imagining of members of the maker culture, a group Doctorow characterizes as being composed of "people who hack hardware, business-models, and living arrangements to discover ways of staying alive and happy even when the economy is falling down the toilet".

The novel is available free on the author's website, as a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA download. It is also published in traditional paper form by HarperVoyager. The UK hardcover is 416 pages long.
