WZBA

WZBA ("100.7 The Bay") is a radio station serving Baltimore, Maryland. The station broadcasts on 100.7 MHz and translator W261CD 100.1 MHz in downtown Baltimore, and markets itself as the only station in the Baltimore market dedicated to the classic rock format. The station's city of license is Westminster, Maryland. Its studios are in Hunt Valley and the transmitter is in Owings Mills.

History

Originally known as WTTR-FM, after its move to Baltimore and the World Trade Center at the Inner Harbor, the station operated under the call letters WGRX (initially branded as "100.7 WGRX" and then "100 GRX" after the switch to classic rock in 1986). WGRX began in 1984 with a mellow variant of Album Oriented Rock known as "Eclectic Oriented Rock" (created by John Sebastian Inc. and also referred to as "New AC") until early 1986, and after this it featured such diverse formats as classic rock, modern rock, and even country at various times in its history.

After broadcasting in a classic rock format for many years, the station moved over to a modern rock format for a time in the mid-1990s. While in its modern rock format, it was known as "the X", and featured the popular "M&M" morning show.

The Bay (web series)

The Bay is a soap opera web series that premiered on September 15, 2010 at Blip.tv. Starring Mary Beth Evans as wealthy socialite Sara Garrett, the series was created by Gregori J. Martin. It is set in the posh seaside town of Bay City, where the privileged residents are entangled in one scandal, betrayal or love affair after the other.

The Bay won a 2015 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding New Approaches Drama Series, and was previously nominated for a Daytime Emmy in 2012 for Outstanding Special Class Short Format Daytime.

Hudson's Bay (retailer)

Hudson's Bay (formerly and still colloquially known as The Bay) is a chain of 90 department stores that operate exclusively in Canada. It is the main brand of Hudson's Bay Company (HBC), North America's oldest company. It has its headquarters in the Simpson Tower in Toronto. In French, the chain is known as la Baie d'Hudson (formerly la Baie), short for "Compagnie de la Baie". The chain uses both the English and French versions of the name in some parts of the country.

The stores are full-line department stores, with a focus on high end fashion apparel, accessories, and home goods. Price points at Hudson's Bay are comparable to U.S. retailers Lord & Taylor, Bloomingdales, and Nordstrom. The average store size is 135,000 square feet (12,500 m²).

Flagship downtown stores are located in Canada's largest cities, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg, often being multi-storey, historic buildings and carry an extensive range and selection of goods than regular Hudson's Bay stores. The largest of the flagship stores is the Toronto store on Queen Street, at about 1,000,000 square feet (93,000 m²). Toronto has another smaller store along the Mink Mile at Bloor Street East and Yonge Street in the Hudson's Bay Centre.

Save the Bay

Save The Bay is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving San Francisco Bay and its related estuarine habitat areas. Founded by Catherine Kerr, Sylvia McLaughlin, and Esther Gulick in 1961, the organization grew into a body that not only achieved its namesake but inspired analogous organizations dedicated to other environmental and other political causes. The organization continues to fight to protect the bay from development and landfill and to oppose redevelopment of salt flats, instead encouraging restoration to a natural state.

History

The organization helped to spark the environmental movement in the United States. The women were successful in saving the bay. They lobbied the state government until state legislation in 1965 established the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission as a state agency. The commission drew up a master plan for San Francisco Bay which provided for orderly development as well as preservation. This was the first such agency in California and later inspired the creation of the California Coastal Commission.
