Sati (Serbian Cyrillic: Шати, Latin: Satti, Albanian: Shati) was a medieval fortified town near Shkodër in contemporary Albania. Between 1395 and 1459, it passed through the control of the Venetian Republic, the Dukagjini family, the Ottoman Empire, and Skanderbeg, who razed it sometime after 1459.

History

Lordship of Zeta and Zaharia family

Together with Scutari and surrounding region, Sati was a part of the Lordship of Zeta until 1395. It belonged to the fief of Konstantin Balšić who appointed Koja Zaharia as Sati's castellan. In 1395 Balša II ceded Sati, together with Scutari and Drivast, to the Venetian Republic in order to create a buffer zone between his lordship and the Ottoman Empire. Zaharia refused to allow Venetians to take control of Sati and proclaimed himself lord of Sati and Dagnum ("dominus Sabatensis et Dagnensis"). Venetians attempted to capture Sati by force in 1396 but without success because Zaharia was supported by Ottoman Empire since in the meantime he had become an Ottoman vassal. Still, after a year Venetians managed to convince Koja to allow them to appoint Venetian citizen Progon Dukagjin on the position of castellan of Sati.

Sati (novel)

Sati is the name of a fantasy novel by Christopher Pike. It was first published in September 1990.

Plot summary

Michael is a trucker who picks up a blonde, blue-eyed, young female hitchhiker, Sati, in the Arizona desert. Sati claims that she is God, to Michael's disbelief, and sets out to prove this by spreading this message through organized meetings, and convinces many people of her divinity. She is challenged numerous times, once by a fundamentalist preacher, but emerges unscathed in his claims. Meanwhile, Michael sets out to find out where this "Sati" came from, only to find nothing. The book opens as such:

"I once knew this girl who thought she was God. She didn't give sight to the blind or raise the dead. She didn't even teach anything, not really, and she never told me anything I probably didn't already know. On the other hand, she didn't expect to be worshiped, nor did she ask for money. Given her high opinion of herself, some might call that a miracle. I don't know, maybe she was God. Her name was Sati, and she had blonde hair and blue eyes."

Anjali

Anjali (Devanagari : अञ्जली; अंजली) is a Sanskrit word that means "divine offering". It is not only a given name, but also the name given to the greeting between Hindus, Buddhists and other religions on the Indian Continent: hands folded together.

Anjali (TV series)

Anjali (Tamil: அஞ்சலி) is an Tamil soap opera that was aired on Sun TV. The show premiered on 27 November 2006. It aired Monday through Friday at 6:00PM IST. The show starring by Mallika, Prajin, Devadarshini, Poovilangu Mohan, Subhalekha Sudhakar and Rindhiya.

The show is produced by Aniksha Productions Anitha Kumaran and director by C.J.Bhaskar. The title track was composed by Kesava Kiran and Lyrics by Vairamuthu. The show last aired on 25 April 2008 and ended with 358 episodes. It was also aired in Sri Lanka Tamil Channel on Shakthi TV.

Plot

The story revolved around the girl Anjali. She was a girl who was brought up from a rather poor family. Ashok was a rich guy who fell in love with Anjali. He was very adamant and at point of time, he succeeded in marrying her. Anjali's father was happy that a rich guy had married his daughter. He was also the son of his employer. Ashok's dad I was not so happy in this marriage, but he accepted for the sake of his son’s happiness. After their marriage, Anjali moved into Ashok's house and one day end up seeing Ashok's father strangling his sister. The story took a turn, when Anjali knew that a girl was after Ashok and the mystery about the girl she was having. Anjali was shocked about this. The rest of the story was about her finding the truth and about the way Ashok dealt with the situation. The serial was watched by the audience with interest and they were curious about the turns and twists. The suspense was about the connection between Ashok and the child. The story was knitted in a such way that it made the viewers remain astonished at the end of every episode.

Anjali (film)

Anjali is a 1990 Tamil language feature film directed by Mani Ratnam. It stars Raghuvaran, Revathi, Master Tarun, Baby Shruti Vijaykumar and Baby Shamili in the leading roles. The background score and soundtrack was composed by Ilaiyaraaja. Anjali was the composer's 500th film. The film deals with the story of a dying mentally disabled child, and the emotional trauma experienced by her family. The film was dubbed into Hindi and Telugu and released under the same name. Anjali was critically acclaimed, winning three National Film Awards. It was chosen as India's official entry to the Oscars in 1991, but was not nominated.

Plot

The film revolves around a family of four – a young civil engineer Shekar (Raghuvaran), his wife, Chitra (Revathi), and their two young children named Arjun (Tarun) and Anu (Shruti). The movie opens with Chitra giving birth to her third child, but unfortunately the daughter is stillborn. Two years later, Shekar and his family move to a new apartment complex. The family seems to have moved on from their grief due to the stillborn child incident and live happily. After a few altercations with the kids in the colony, Arjun and Anu are accepted by all the kids as their own. The kids are all for pulling pranks and generally causing a clamor around the apartment colony. One such constant joke they play on a mentally retarded ex-watchman (Janakaraj) of the colony, much to the chagrin of his wife. The only tenant they are afraid of is an ex-convict (Prabhu Ganesan) who lives alone in one of the apartments.
