Saswad

Saswad  pronunciation  is a city and a municipal council in the Pune district of Maharashtra. Saswad is situated on the banks of Karha River and is famous because the great Marathi Socialist, Writer and Filmmaker P. K. Atre alias Aacharya Atre was born here. He is One of the Leader in the United Marathi Speaker State Movement, his series of books on the Movement viz. Karheche Pani कऱ्हेचे पाणी created Undisputed Place in the History of Marathi Language.

Saswad is located at average elevation of 1500 metres (2522 feet).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, Saswad had a population of 1,15,000. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Saswad has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 79%, and female literacy is 70%. In Saswad, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Now a day's saswad is a part of pune city because, saswad is just 25 km (30 minutes) away from Pune city and 20 minutes from Hadapsar and the Hadapsar-Saswad road becomes four-lane is under construction. Saswad is a well developed city. There are many apartments,shopping complex,planned society's are built. Saswad is a junction for picnic, because Jejuri is just 15 km from here, Narayanpur & Purandar fort is just 7 km from here, Balaji temple (Ketkawle) is just 14 km from here. Also Katraj Zoo and Sarasbag are not far. The Eotte(Royal Purandar) city which are under construction are just 10 km from Saswad and other Magarpatta City, Amnnora Tower City are just 20 minutes from Saswad.
