Sarfarosh

Sarfarosh (translation: Fervour) is a 1999 Indian action thriller-drama film. It was produced, written and directed by John Matthew Matthan and starred Naseeruddin Shah, Sonali Bendre and Aamir Khan. John started working on Sarfarosh in 1992. Seven years were spent on the research, pre-production and production till it finally released in 1999. The film dealt with an Indian police officer's fight to stop cross-border terrorism. The film was released at the time of the Kargil conflict when tensions between India and Pakistan were high. The film was critically praised and was commercially successful at the box office.The film was remade in Kannada as Sathyameva Jayathe with Devaraj and in Telugu as Astram (2006) with Vishnu Manchu and Anushka Shetty.

Plot

Arms trade is taking place in India. An arsenal enters Indian territory via the state of Rajasthan, which makes its way to interior of India with help of many middlemen. Bala Thakur, a gun handler in Chandrapur, provides the arms to Veeran, a forest dwelling brigand. Later, Veeran and his gang attack a wedding bus, mercilessly gunning down every person in it which includes women and children. The government appoints a Special Action Team in Mumbai to trace the roots behind the attack. The team learns about Bala Thakur, but thanks to his informants, Thakur flees before he can be apprehended.

Sarfarosh (1930 film)

Sarfarosh also called Brave Hearts was a 1930 silent film directed by A. R. Kardar. Made as action adventure film based on the RKO dramas, it was produced by Kardar's production company, "Playart Phototone". According to Hameeduddin Mahmood, the films had double titles up until the mid-1930s; the Hindi/Urdu name for the home market (India), and the English name for the overseas market. Kardar gave up acting after having starred in Husn Ka Daku (1929) and cast Gul Hamid in the main role. He also gave Rafiqe Ghaznavi a break as an actor in the film. Ghaznavi went on to become a famous music director.

The cinematographer was K. V. Machve, and the actors were Gul Hamid, Ghulam Qadir, Miss Gulzar, Rafiqe Ghaznavi and Mumtaz.

The film, like Husn Ka Daku (1929) was released at Deepak Cinema, in the Bhati Gate area of Lahore. The film was made in thirty weeks and made "1,170 rupees, 2 annas and 6 paisa", making it the "Most successful" film until that time.

Sarfarosh (1985 film)

Sarfarosh (English: Fervour) is a 1985 Indian Bollywood Action film produced by Prasan Kapoor on Tirupati Pictures Enterprises banner, directed by Dasari Narayana Rao. Starring Jeetendra, Leena Chandavarkar and Sridevi in the lead roles and music composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. The film is remake of Telugu Blockbuster Movie Sardar Papa Rayudu (1980), starring N.T.Rama Rao, Sridevi in pivotal roles.

Plot

Satyedev, Dharmadhikari, and Buddhiram not only frame an honest freedom-fighter, Jwala Singh, but also have him imprisoned. Many years later, after he completes his sentence, he seeks out the three so he can avenge himself. He will soon find that the only person standing in his way is Police Inspector Suraj Kapoor — who is none other than his very own son.
