Muhammad Yousuf
Muhammad Yousuf is professor of mathematics at the Hazara University, Mansehra, Pakistan, who works in the area of history of mathematics.
Early life
Muhammad Yousuf was born in July, 1946, in the village of Maira Amjad Ali, of district Mansehra. His father Ghulam Haider worked in the land and revenue department. He received his early education from Mansehra and Abbottabad.
Education
He did his Masters from the University of Peshawar in 1969 securing a University gold medal and receiving the President of Pakistan's Award. He then received a scholarship for higher education from the University of California, Berkeley, but his plans were cut short due to the Indo-Pak war of 1971. He later on completed his PhD from the University of St. Andrews, UK under the supervision of Professor Edmund F. Robertson .
Career
He joined Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, as a faculty member in 1975, and went on to become the chairman of the department, and served in that position for over 15 years. After his retirement in 2004, he was appointed as professor and chairman of the Mathematics department of the newly established Hazara University at his home town of Mansehra. He served in this position till April, 2013, and played a pivotal role in the development of the faculty, and stream lining the rules and procedures of the nascent institution.
