Santo António is the main settlement of Príncipe Island in São Tomé and Príncipe and was the colonial capital of Portuguese São Tomé and Príncipe from 1753 until 1852. It lies on the north east coast and the Palhota River. It serves as the capital of both Príncipe Province and Pagué District and has an estimated population of 1,200 residents.

The town is known for its colonial architecture and for its churches, the largest of which is the main Roman Catholic church, begun in 1947. The town is also known for the Auto da Floripes play, which is performed by the citizens and watched by people coming from all over the world.

Santo António (Funchal)

Santo António (Portuguese meaning "Saint Anthony") is a civil parish in the northeastern part of the municipality of Funchal on the island of Madeira. It is located about 3 km northwest of central Funchal. The most populous civil parish in the archipelago, it extends into the mountainous interior of the island. The population in 2011 was 27,383, in an area of 22.16 km².

Santo António is the birthplace of famous football player Cristiano Ronaldo, who was a leading player for Manchester United for several years, member of the Portuguese national team, and from 2009 a forward for Real Madrid. He is widely regarded as one of the best of his generation, and one of the greatest of all time. The city is home to the Museu CR7, which is a museum dedicated to the achievements of Ronaldo.

History

The settlement that existed in this area was primarily small artisan shops, that congregated around a small chapel dedicated to Santo António, in the late 16th century, when it was elevated to ecclesiastical parish. It includes the barrio of Madalena, situated around a now disappeared chapel to Santa Maria Madalena.

Santo António (São Roque do Pico)

Santo António is a civil parish in the municipality of São Roque do Pico on the northern coast of the island of Pico in the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores. The population in 2011 was 815 in an area of approximately 32.03 square kilometres (12.37 sq mi).

History

The parish remotes to the end of the 17th century, when it was ecclesiastical parish of Santo António, in honour of Anthony of Padua. Its principal centre of worship was dedicated to the invocation of the saint, the single-belfry Church of Santo António (which was unique at the time for having only one belltower, as compared to the other churches on the island). The church was dotted with a valuable retable located in the presbytery, elaborated in thin guildwork and its stoic large images dedicated to St. Anthony and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

In addition, the parish included several hermitages dedicated to their respective saints, including the Hermitage of São Vicente, the Hermitage of Santa Ana, the chapel of Santo António da Furna, the Church of Santo António and the Império of the Divine Holy Spirit of Santo António, which all characterize the history of their localities.

Santo

Rodolfo Guzmán Huerta (September 23, 1917 – February 5, 1984), more widely known as El Santo (The Saint), was a Mexican Luchador enmascarado (Spanish for masked professional wrestler), film actor, and folk icon. El Santo, along with Blue Demon and Mil Máscaras, is one of the most famous and iconic of all Mexican luchadores, and has been referred to as one of "the greatest legends in Mexican sports." His wrestling career spanned nearly five decades, during which he became a folk hero and a symbol of justice for the common man through his appearances in comic books and movies. He is said to have popularized professional wrestling in Mexico just as Rikidozan did in Japan. Guzmán's son followed him into wrestling as El Hijo del Santo, or 'Son of Santo'.

Biography

Born in Tulancingo in the Mexican state of Hidalgo, to Jesús Guzmán Campuzano and Josefina Huerta (Márquez) de Guzmán as the fifth of seven children, Rodolfo came to Mexico City in the 1920s, where his family settled in the Tepito neighbourhood. He practiced baseball and American football, and then became interested in wrestling. He first learned Ju-Jitsu, then classical wrestling.

Ely Buendia

Eleandre "Ely" Basiño Buendia (born November 2, 1970) is a Filipino musician, writer and director who gained fame as guitarist, songwriter and lead vocalist of the popular Filipino rock band Eraserheads. His compositions gained success and critical acclaim, topping various music charts, and are now considered classics. Widely regarded as one of the most respected music icons in the country, he currently performs as guitarist and lead vocalist for Pupil and The Oktaves.

Personal life

Eleandre Basiño Buendia was born in his parents' home in Naga City at 6:20 AM on November 2, 1970. He is the second child of Ely Revilla Buendia (born c. 1942 in Goa, Camarines Sur) and Lisetta Ruiz Basiño (March 22, 1942 in Caramoan, Camarines Sur - August 28, 2008 in Manila). His parents were married on October 30, 1964 in Ragay, Camarines Sur. He first learned Kundiman from his mother while he started playing the guitar at the age of 7 years old. Buendia graduated from Elementary in Pasig Catholic College in 1983 in Pasig City and High School in University of Perpetual Help Rizal. During Elementary, Buendia won in a singing contest where he sang "Doon Lang" by Nonoy Zuniga. Buendia later enrolled to University of the Philippines Diliman where he formed his bands Bluidie Tryste, Sunday School and Eraserheads.
