Sangham

Sangham (English: Society) is a 1954 Telugu romantic comedy film written by V.S.Venkatasalam and directed by M. V. Raman. The film starred Vyjayanthimala, N. T. Rama Rao, S. Balachander and Anjali Devi in the lead while Chittor V. Nagaiah, V. K. Ramaswamy, K. N. Kamlam, K.R. Chellam and K. Sankarapani as the ensemble cast, was produced by A. V. Chettiar of AVM Productions. The film's score was composed by R. Sudarsanam, edited by K. Shankar and M. V. Raman and was filmed by T. Muthu Sami.

The film's story revolves around two friends played by Vyjayanthimala and Anjali Devi.

Remakes

The success of this movie basked the producer A. V. Chettiar to remade it in Hindi as Ladki with Kishore Kumar and Bharat Bhushan in S. Balachander and Gemini Ganesan role respectively which becomes second highest grossing film of 1953 with verdict hit. The film also made simultaneously in Tamil as Penn with Gemini Ganesan in N. T. Rama Rao's role while S. Balachander reprises his role from the original. Among the cast Vyjayanthimala, Anjali Devi and Chittor V. Nagaiah are the only actors to retain their roles in all three languages.

Sangham is a 1988 Indian Malayalam film, directed by Joshiy and produced by K Rajagopal. The film stars Mammootty, Thilakan, Parvathy and Saritha in lead roles. The film had musical score by Shyam. The film was a huge hit at box office.

Plot

The film is about a spoiled brat Kuttapayi (Mammootty) and his young friends. Kuttapayi is the son of Rappayi (Thilakan), a rich miser. Kuttapayi make all sorts of trouble in his village. One related to a snake boat/dragon boat race made him and his friends to exile to neighboring state. Kuttapayi has a illegitimate daughter which is unknown to him, she is taken care by his father through a servant. The servant (Balan K Nair) takes money and land and promises to Rappayi to care of Kuttapayi's daughter. The servant uses the money and land for his own growth and pushes Kuttapayi's illegitimate wife to prostitution. When matters get hairy the servant tries to sell Kuttapayi's daughter too to prostitution. Kuttapayi comes to know about the situation and saves her and loses her mother in the fiery process.
