Sand art and play

Sand art is the practice of modelling sand into an artistic form, such as a sand brushing, sand sculpture, sandpainting, or sand bottles. A sand castle is a type of sand sculpture resembling a miniature building, often a castle.

The two basic building ingredients, sand and water, are available in abundance on a sandy beach, so most sand play takes place there, or in a sandpit. Tidal beaches generally have sand that limits height and structure because of the shape of the sand grains. Good sculpture sand is somewhat dirty, having silt and clay that helps lock the irregular-shaped sand grains together.

Sand castles are typically made by children, simply for the fun of it, but there are also sand-sculpture contests for adults that involve large, complex constructions. The largest sand castle made in a contest was 18 feet tall; the owner, Ronald Malcnujio, a five-foot-high man, had to use several ladders, each the height of the sand castle. His sculpture consisted of one ton of sand and 10 litres of water to sculpt.

Paradise, Hawaiian Style (album)

Paradise, Hawaiian Style is the twenty-sixth album by Elvis Presley, released by RCA Victor in mono and stereo, LPM/LSP 3643, in June 1966. Recording sessions took place at Radio Recorders in Hollywood, California, on July 26 and 27, and August 2, 1965. It peaked at number 15 on the Top LP's chart.

Presley found himself in 1965 recording soundtrack albums for films that were almost a year away from release — gone were the days when the turnaround time from the final session for Elvis Is Back! to its arrival in the shops was less than one week. While working on this album, his most recent film in the theaters was Tickle Me, and Presley had completed three more movies since then. With titles like "A Dog's Life" and "Queenie Wahine's Papaya" he openly ridiculed the material, wasting time before finally approaching the microphone to do the job. He begrudgingly accepted songs given him that he would have rejected outright years earlier. He always finished the work, but in essence Presley had become a hired hand in his own career.

Sand Castles (film)

Sand Castles is a 2014 American independent drama film directed by Clenét Verdi-Rose, starring Jordon Hodges and Anne Winters. It co-stars Randy Spence, Saxon Trainor, Daniella Grace, Scott Jemison, and Clint Howard.

Filming took place in Goshen, Indiana and St. Joseph, Michigan in October 2012. The film had its world premiere on March 21, 2014 at the Gasparilla Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize in the festival's New Visions Competition. The film will have its North America release by MarVista Entertainment on February 16th, 2016.

Plot

In rural Indiana, Noah Daly (Jordon Hodges) and his impoverished family wrestle with the mysterious return of his now mute sister Lauren (Anne Winters), who was kidnapped and held captive for over a decade.
