San Marino (i/sæn məˈriːnoʊ/; Italian: [sam maˈriːno]), officially the Republic of San Marino (Italian: Repubblica di San Marino), also known as the Most Serene Republic of San Marino (Italian: Serenissima Repubblica di San Marino), is an enclaved microstate surrounded by Italy, situated on the Italian Peninsula on the northeastern side of the Apennine Mountains. Its size is just over 61 km2 (24 sq mi) and has an estimated population of about 32,000. Its capital is the City of San Marino and its largest city is Dogana. San Marino has the smallest population of all the members of the Council of Europe.
San Marino claims to be the oldest surviving sovereign state and constitutional republic in the world, as the continuation of the monastic community founded on 3 September 301, by stonecutter Marinus of Arba. Legend has it that Marinus left Rab, then the Roman colony of Arba, in 257 when the future emperor Diocletian issued a decree calling for the reconstruction of the city walls of Rimini, which had been destroyed by Liburnian pirates.

The current commencial name is T & A San Marino because the main sponsor of the club is currently Tecnologie e Ambiente S.A.. San Marino plays in the Italian Baseball League, the top level of professional baseball in Italy. It has frequently participated in the European Cup (for the first time in 1993) and won the European championship in 2006, 2011 and 2014. It won in 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2013 the Italian League championship.

San Marino RTV currently operates four television channels:San Marino RTV, San Marino RTV 2, San Marino RTV Sport and San Marino RTV Sat. It currently operates two radio stations, Radio San Marino and Radio San Marino Classic.
Experimental radio broadcasts began on 27 December 1992. On 28 February 1993, Radio San Marino was launched broadcasting 24 hours a day.
Experimental television began on 24 April 1993. On 28 February 1994 a regular television service was launched, broadcasting from 10am to 2am.
In July 1995, San Marino RTV became a full member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), making able to broadcast and participate in EBU events.
In 2007, San Marino RTV began interests in entering the Eurovision Song Contest, On 27 November 2007, it was announced that RTV San Marino would enter the 2008 edition, in Belgrade, Serbia, despite the fact that RAI (that withdrew from 1997) owns of 50% of the station. It withdrew for 2 years due to finance problems, but both it and RAI returned in 2011, meaning San Marino and –for the first time in 14 years– Italy took part in the 2011 contest. The small republic reached its first final in 2014.

The channel mostly shows self-produced entertainment programming. It is also part of Eurovision Network (broadcasting the Eurovision Song Contest) and the Italian television syndication K2. It also offers a Teletext service entitled, San Marino Video.
SMtv San Marino also is responsible for the Sammarinese participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. They debuted in 2008 with Miodio and placed last in the first semifinal, getting five points. The city takes its name from the ancient Republic of San Marino, founded by Saint Marinus who fled his home in Dalmatia (modern Croatia) at the time of the Diocletianic Persecution of Christians. Marinus took refuge at Monte Titano on the Italian peninsula, where he built a chapel and founded a monastic community in 301 A.D.. The state which grew from the monastery is the world's oldest surviving republic.

The city has a population of 4,128. It is on the western slopes of San Marino's highest point, Monte Titano.

The city was founded by Saint Marinus and several Christian refugees in the year 301. From then on the city became a center of Christian refugees who fled from Roman persecution. As a result, the city become the oldest republic in Europe, for the republic's territory at that time only included the single city of San Marino.
