Samantha Giles

Samantha Elizabeth Giles (born 2 July 1971 in Maidstone) is an English actress, probably best known for playing Bernice Blackstock in Emmerdale (1998–2002 and 2004 and returned to the role in 2012), a role which earned her a TV Quick Award for Best Actress and a nomination for a National Television Awards for Most Popular Actress (both in 2000), and Sally Boothe in Where the Heart Is (2003–2005). Giles stated that she left Emmerdale as it was too much of a commute to her home.

Giles's other TV credits are Doctors, Dangerfield, Coronation Street and Midnight Man. Her stage credits include A Taste of Honey (as Helen), Dead Funny (Lisa), and Season's Greetings (Belinda).

In December 2007, it was announced that Giles was to join the cast of the Channel 4 teen soap Hollyoaks in 2008 as Valerie Holden, a role that was taken over from actress Jacqueline Leonard. She has since left Hollyoaks on maternity leave, written out as moving to Spain. However, she returned in July 2010, and left again in August 2010.

Samantha Jo Giles (born 28 October 1994) is a Cornish amateur golfer who has represented England at the highest amateur level and who has been Cornwall's women's county champion since 2015.

Born in Plymouth to parents Paul and Carol, both of whom had represented England at table tennis, Carol at the Commonwealth games and Paul as national champion, Giles started creating her early sporting history from a young age with interest in swimming, dancing and golf.

Taking up her chosen career from the age of 11, Giles has been competing in regional, national and European events for the past 10 years. Since the completion of her GCSEs at the age 16, she has been training full-time in the pursuit of turning professional and joining the LPGA Tour.

To date the Saltash-based player's major successes have been joining the England Women's team, winning the 2014 English women's mid-amateur championship, 2015 Cornish Women's Championship, 2015 English Women's Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship and the Royal Birkdale Golf Club Ladies Scratch Trophy.
