Sam Johnson

Samuel Robert "Sam" Johnson (born October 11, 1930) is the U.S. Representative for Texas's 3rd congressional district serving in Congress since 1991. He is a member of the Republican Party. The district includes much of Collin County, including Plano, where he lives. In October–November 2015, he was the acting Chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means, where he also serves as chairman of the Social Security Subcommittee.

Johnson is also a retired United States Air Force Colonel and was a decorated fighter pilot in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War where in the latter he was a prisoner of war for nearly seven years.

Early life and education

Johnson grew up in Dallas and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. Johnson graduated from Southern Methodist University in his hometown in 1951, with a degree in business administration. While at SMU, Johnson joined the Delta Chi social fraternity as well as the Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity.

Military career

Johnson served a 29-year career in the United States Air Force, where he served as director of the Air Force Fighter Weapons School and flew the F-100 Super Sabre with the Air Force Thunderbirds precision flying demonstration team. He commanded the 31st Tactical Fighter Wing at Homestead AFB, Florida and an air division at Holloman AFB, New Mexico, retiring as a Colonel.

Sam Johnson (born May 18, 1959) is a former American football defensive back who played one season with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the sixth round of the 1981 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Sam Johnson (born 6 May 1993) is a Liberian footballer who plays for Djurgårdens IF as a forward.

Career

Johnson started out playing for Nimba FC in his homeland Liberia before traveling to Norway in 2011 to trial with FK Haugesund. He impressed the Norwegian club, but only enough for them to offer him a youth contract, so he instead signed with Swedish club Dalkurd FF. He would however only stay there for a couple of months due to work permit problems. Johnson remained in Sweden though and played for fourth tier club Assyriska IF KF during the second half of the 2011 season.

For the first half of the following season Johnson stepped down one division and played for fifth tier club Juventus IF before once again returning to the fourth tier when playing for Härnösands FF during the fall. After the season he was awarded the title of "best midfielder" in the league Härnösand played in.

Before the 2013 season Johnson trialed with second tier Superettan club Jönköpings Södra IF but was turned down. Instead he signed a three-year deal with third tier club IK Frej. In his second season with them Johnson, who was now playing as forward, became their top goalscorer as the club was promoted to Superettan. In December 2014 Allsvenskan club Djurgårdens IF announced that they had signed Johnson on a four-year deal.
