Salama (roller coaster)

Salama (English: Lightning) is a steel roller coaster located at Linnanmäki in Helsinki, Finland. It was constructed for the 2008 season. It is built on top of Hurjakuru, a river rafting ride.

Salama got its name from Kalevala, the national epic of Finland.

Salamá

Salamá is a city in Guatemala. It is the capital of the department of Baja Verapaz and it is situated at 940 m above sea level. The municipality of Salamá, for which the city of Salamá serves as the administrative centre, covers a total surface area of 776 km² and contains 40,000 people.

History

Salamá was settled as a doctrine by the Order of Preachers in the 1550s, as part of the Tezulutlán Capitulations that friar Bartolome de las Casas lobbied from the Crown. The friars had thousand of acres with hills, forest, a section of the plain and abundant water supply. Both location and weather were ideal for vines; the characteristic soil and dried grass from the rest of the plain was replaced by vines thanks to a superb irrigation system the friars built inspired by the Romans.

After the independence in 1821, the Central Ameran liberal criollos tried to remove the Catholic Church from power, along with the Guatemalan aristocrats of the Aycinena family. By 1829, the liberal forces of general Francisco Morazán expelled both the aristocrats and the regular orders from Central America, including the Order of Preachers, one of the richest; in Salamá, they had to left behind their monastery, church and vines which were confiscated by the Guatemalan State government, but remained abandoned due to the political turmoil of the times.

Indigo (born Alyssa Ashley Nichols, 25 June 1984, Los Angeles) is an American actress. She played Vaneeta on the Showtime series Weeds and Rona, one of the vampire slayer potentials, in the final season of the TV series Buffy, the Vampire Slayer.

Indigo (Warner novel)

Indigo is a novel written by Marina Warner, published by Simon & Schuster in 1992 (ISBN 0-671-70156-8). It is a modernized and altered retelling of William Shakespeare's, The Tempest. Within the novel, Warner appropriates Shakespeare's original plot and characters to fit a dual reality, spanning the 17th and 20th Centuries, and the colonial sphere of the Caribbean alongside post-colonial London. She expands certain characters, for example, Sycorax, Shakespeare's dark witch, is given her own identity as indigo maker and village sage. The colonialist realities of 'discovery' and the conquering of 'new' lands are played out in the novel's first section. Finally, the characters of Miranda and Caliban (recreated as Dulé and George/Shaka) are unified in a shared acknowledgement of past colonial wrongs.
