Sainthia

Sainthia is a town and a municipality in Suri Sadar subdivision of Birbhum district in the Indian state of West Bengal. The town is famous for Nandikeshwari Temple, one of the Shakti Peethas in India.

Urbanization of this area gained momentum in the recent past, when construction work of the Sahibganj loop line and a bridge over the Mayurakshi River started. Construction of the Khana-Rajmahal section of Sahibganj Loop was completed in October 1859. The first train ran from Howrah to Rajmahal via Khana Junction on 4 July 1860. Construction of the Sainthia railway station was done as part of building the entire line. This large project brought people from different corners of this country to assemble and settle here. With the effort of the inhabitants of this urban locality, Sainthia has been turned into a commercial hub of the district. Now it is growing rapidly through all the development and service avenues to be a model municipality by taking good care of its inhabitants and the nature surrounding it. Sainthia Municipality has an area of 10 square kilometres.

Sainthia (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is an assembly constituency in Birbhum district in the Indian state of West Bengal. The seat is reserved for scheduled castes. Mahammad Bazar (Vidhan Sabha constituency) ceases to be an assembly constituency from 2011. Sainthia (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is a newly constituted constituency.

As per orders of the Delimitation Commission, No. 289 Sainthia (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (SC) is composed of the following: Sainthia municipality, Banagram, Deriapur, Fulur, Horisara, Hatora and Mathpalsa gram panchayats of Sainthia community development block, Angargaria, Bhutura, Charicha, Mahamad Bazar, Deucha and Puranagram gram panchayats of Mahammad Bazar community development block, and Suri II community development block.

Sainthia (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (SC) is part of No. 42 Birbhum (Lok Sabha constituency).

In the 2001 elections, Dhiren Bagdi of CPI(M) defeated his nearest rival Parikshit Bala of Trinamool Congress.

Sainthia (community development block) (Bengali: সাঁইথিয়া সমষ্টি উন্নয়ন ব্লক) is an administrative division in Suri Sadar subdivision of Birbhum district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Sainthia and Panrui police stations serve this block. Headquarters of this block is at Ahmedpur. Ahmedpur is an urban area in this block.

Sainthia block registered a population growth of 13.55 per cent during the 1991-2001 decade. Decadal growth for Birbhum district was 17.88 per cent.Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84 per cent.
