Said the Whale is a Vancouver-based indie rock band started by Ben Worcester and Tyler Bancroft in 2007.[1]

Their debut EP Taking Abalonia was released in 2007. It was re-released with seven new songs on June 3, 2008 in Canada as a full-length LP under the name Howe Sounds/Taking Abalonia. Their EPs Let's Have Sound and West Coast Christmas are available for download free of charge on their website.

On July 1, 2009, Said the Whale released the EP The Magician to drum up anticipation for the release of their second full length album Islands Disappear on October 13, 2009.

On November 18, 2010, the band placed second behind rapper Kyprios in CKPK-FM's 2010 Peak Performance Project, winning $75,000.[2]

Said the Whale toured the U.S. for the first time in spring of 2011. They played shows along the West Coast on their way to and from Austin's SXSW Music Festival.

Said the Whale won the Juno Award for New Group of the Year at the 2011 Juno Awards.[3]

Said the Whale are the subject of the CBC documentary Winning America which aired on July 23, 2011, so far only in BC.

They released their EP New Brighton on November 8, 2011, in preparation for their third full-length album, Little Mountain, released internationally on March 6, 2012.[4]

In early 2012, the band was awarded a spot on the Canadian music magazine Rockstar Weekly's list of the "Top 12 RockStars to Watch in 2012". The list also contained Van Halen, The Rolling Stones, Rush and others.[5]

The band performed at the 2012 Sasquatch! Music Festival.

WAAL ("The Whale") is a classic rock radio station broadcasting at 99.1 MHz and licensed to Binghamton, NY and is under ownership of Townsquare Media.     "The Whale" is the seventh episode of the ninth season of the American comedy television series The Office. The episode originally aired on NBC on November 15, 2012. The episode guest stars Jack Coleman as Robert Lipton and marks the return of actress Melora Hardin as Jan Levenson.

    The series depicts the everyday lives of office employees in the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. In this episode, Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) is tasked with selling paper to a woman—who is later revealed to be Jan (Hardin)—from the Scranton White Pages, so Pam Halpert (Jenna Fischer) and the women of the office teach him how to interact with women. Angela Lipton (Angela Kinsey) confides in Oscar Martinez (Oscar Nunez) that her husband, Robert (Jack Coleman)—who is secretly having a relationship with Oscar—is cheating on her.
