Safe (Firefly)

"Safe" is the fifth episode of the science fiction television series Firefly created by Joss Whedon.

Mal must choose which crew members to save when one is gravely wounded and two others are kidnapped. Simon finds an uneasy haven in a remote village, but River's uncanny perceptions jeopardize the Tams' temporary safety.

Plot

The episode is interspersed with flashbacks, detailing Simon and River's lives before River's abduction: Simon, a studious young boy, River engaging in flights of imagination while correcting his textbooks, and their father encouraging Simon to become a "brilliant doctor". These expectations are derailed by River's sojourn at an academy, from where she sends letters referring to events which have not happened. The elder Tams are untroubled by River's letters, believing she's just playing games again, and abandon Simon when he takes precipitate and illegal action to rescue her.

In the present day, Simon continues to try to diagnose River's conditions and injuries, while Mal demands that they stay out of the way while he conducts business. On arrival at the backwater colony of Jiangyin, Shepherd Book aids Mal and Jayne in unloading and penning the cattle and meeting with the Grange brothers, their disreputable buyers. Just as they come to an agreement on price, local law enforcement arrives to arrest the clients, and Book is wounded in the ensuing gunfight.

Firefly (TNT album)

Firefly is the sixth studio album by the Norwegian hard rock band TNT. It was released in 1997.

The album was a comeback for TNT who split up in 1992 after the release of Realized Fantasies. It also marked a significant change in TNT's sound and is still heavily debated among the fans of the band. The music is more heavy and modern, reflecting the changes in the music business in the first half of the 1990s. It is also Tony Harnell's favorite album. New singer Tony Mills was told by Le Tekrø in 2007 to not even bother listening to it as they would not play anything from the album live.

The album was not as successful as some of TNT's previous albums, but still achieved some success in Norway and Japan. The band toured those countries in support of the album.

Track listing

The song "Soldier of the Light" was never meant for the album. It was a demo from the Realized Fantasies sessions and was put on Firefly because the Japanese record company liked it so much.

They opened their live shows with "Only the Thief" as an intro before launching into "Somebody Told You" with Tony Harnell doing the first lines of the songs lyrics before Le Tekrø opened with the song's riff.

Firefly (dinghy)

The Firefly is a two-sail, one design, wooden or GRP sailing dinghy with no spinnaker, designed by Uffa Fox in 1938. The first four boats from the production line were named Fe, Fi, Fo and Fum. Number one, Fe, is now owned by the National Maritime Museum Cornwall. Although designed as a double hander, it was selected as the single handed class for the 1948 Olympics but was subsequently replaced by the Finn class. The class then became popular as a low cost, one design, double hander, as was originally intended, tolerating remarkably well combined weights of 16 to 25 stone (102 to 159 kg).

The Firefly class today has a thriving open events calendar in the UK. The national championships are always held at a sea venue and attracts a very high level of dinghy racing competitors in boats of all ages from all over the country and fleets of 60 entries plus. Away events are held at a number of the top end sailing clubs in the UK including Restonguet, Itchenor, West Kirby, Felixstowe Ferry, Southport, Budworth and Rickmansworth. It has become particularly successful as a team racing boat in the UK, thanks to its high manoeuvrability, easy handling, and low cost. Another benefit is the use of smaller mainsail which enables sailing in stronger winds. The class has become particularly popular for the British Universities Sailing Association team racing events and is used in similar BSDRA events, thus a large number of universities and schools that team race have a fleet of Fireflys, taking advantage of the benefits above.

Firefly (airline)

FlyFirefly Sdn Bhd, operating as Firefly, is a full-service point-to-point carrier and a full subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines. Its head office is located on the grounds of Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang, Selangor. It claims to be the first community airline in Malaysia. Firefly operates from two hubs - Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang, Selangor and Penang International Airport. The airline's first flight was on 3 April 2007, from Penang to Kota Bharu.

Management and operation

Firefly has a separate management apart from its parent company, Malaysia Airlines. Firefly focuses on serving the Malaysia as well as Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand.

Idris Jala, Malaysia Airlines' managing director, speaking at a business briefing and launch of the new airline's logo on 16 March 2007, said Firefly would work with MAS in breaking new ground and realising a core network over the next five years. The core network would include markets such as North America, South America and South Africa.

Safe (EP)

Safe is the second EP by Kittie, a Canadian heavy metal all-women band from London, Ontario. It was released in 2002. It is dedicated "In Loving Memory of Dave Williams". The EP sold 25,000 units in the United States. It received very little promotion, only appearing on 2 major rock/heavy metal magazines.

Al-Safa and Al-Marwah

Al-Safa and Al-Marwah (Safa and Marwah) (Arabic: الصفا‎ Aṣ-Ṣafā, المروة al-Marwah) are two small hills now located in the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia between which Muslims travel back and forth seven times during the ritual pilgrimages of Hajj and Umrah.

History

In Islamic tradition, Ibrahim (Abraham) was commanded by God to leave his wife Hajar (Hagar) and their infant son alone in the desert between Al-Safa and Al-Marwah with only basic provisions to test their faith. When their provisions were exhausted, Hagar went in search of help or water. To make her search easier and faster, she went alone, leaving the infant Ismail (Ishmael) on the ground.

She first climbed the nearest hill, Al-Safa, to look over the surrounding area. When she saw nothing, she then went to the other hill, Al-Marwah, to look around. While Hagar was on either hillside, she was able to see Ismael and know he was safe. However, when she was in the valley between the hills she was unable to see her son, and would thus run whilst in the valley and walk at a normal pace when on the hillsides. Hagar travelled back and forth between the hills seven times in the scorching heat before returning to her son. When she arrived, she found that a spring had broken forth from where the Angel Jibreel hit the ground with his wing. This spring is now known as the Zamzam Well, and was revealed by the angel of God as both sustenance and a reward for Hagar's patience.

House (season 2)

The second season of House premiered on September 13, 2005 and ended on May 23, 2006. During the season, House tries to cope with his feelings for his ex-girlfriend Stacy Warner, who, after House diagnosed her husband with Acute intermittent porphyria, has taken a job in the legal department of Princeton-Plainsboro.

Sela Ward's chemistry with Laurie in the final two episodes of season one was strong enough to have her character return in seven episodes of the second season.
