Smash (British band)

Smash (often typeset as S*M*A*S*H) are a punk rock trio who enjoyed brief notoriety in the early 1990s in the UK. Smash was formed by Ed Borrie (vocals, guitar), Salvatore Alessi (credited as Salv) (bass), and Rob Hague (drums) in Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire, England.

Career

The band's sound recalled the late 1970s and early 1980s punk and new wave bands. The British music press were enthusiastic about the band creating a non-existent scene called New Wave of New Wave, along with similar UK bands of the time such as Echobelly, Sleeper, Compulsion and These Animal Men.

The band's second single was a tribute to feminism called "Lady Love your Cunt". It appeared on their debut mini album "S*M*A*S*H" which was a compilation of their first two limited edition 7" singles, and was well received by critics. The band made some appearances on UK TV programmes such as Naked City, as well as live performances, including a collaboration with Billy Bragg during an Anti-Nazi League rally.

S*M*A*S*H (miniseries)

S*M*A*S*H was a 1990 Swedish comedy TV mini-series with eight episodes written and directed by Måns Herngren and Hannes Holm. Herngren also stars in the series, along with Svante Grundberg, Peter Wahlbeck, Felix Herngren and Sten Ljunggren. It was released on January 4, 1990.

Plot

In the 1970s, the search for young tennis talents reached its peak when the superstar Einar Berg threw in the towel. Fifteen years after his retirement, Berg makes a comeback because of financial problems and he teams up with teens Alex, Sigge and Teo, where they travel around the world and play tennis.

Episodes

Episode 1 "Va é de för set"

Sigurd 'Sigge' Grönqvist (Wahlbeck) and Alexander 'Alex' Carlsson (M. Herngren) are two teenagers who are picked for tennis practice by Wallner (Ljunggren), a manager and Börje (Norström), a trainer. They are soon joined by a visiting school pupil Teofil 'Teo' Broström (F. Herngren), and former international tennis star, Einar Berg (Grundberg). Teo turns out be rather good at tennis, even though he has never played it and the four of them combine their different skills and personalities to form a rather odd quartet in the tennis world.
