SS Laura (1885)
SS Laura was a passenger vessel built for the London and South Western Railway in 1885.
History
The ship was built of Siemens Martin steel by the Aitken and Mansel of Whiteinch and launched on 20 March 1885 by Miss Alice Fleming of Eltham Kent. She had accommodation for about 150 passengers, exclusive of third class passengers.
On 27 January 1886 she was on a voyage from Southampton to St Malo when the bottom of her high pressure cylinder blew out, scalding one of the firemen, and disabling the ship about 15 miles north of Guernsey. The tugs Rescue and Alert were sent from Guernsey to render her assistance.
In 1910, 21 miles south of the Needle’s lighthouse, she collided with the Norwegian ship Sophie, of Lavinia, bound from Caleta Buena for Hamburg loaded with nitrate. The Sophie was struck on the starboard quarter and started to flood.
In January 1911 she collided with her sister ship Lydia during a dense fog off the Needles and on 14 January 1914 the Hamburg-Amerika Company’s tender Ariadne collided with her.
SS Laura (1908)
Laura was an 842 GRT coaster that was built in 1908 by Kjøbenhavns Flydedok & Skibsværft, Copenhagen, Denmark for Danish owners. She was captured in 1917 by UC-79 and passed to German owners as a prize of war.
A sale in 1935 saw her renamed Sylt. She was seized by the Allies in May 1945, passed to the Ministry of War Transport (MoWT) and was renamed Empire Continent., then Master Nicholas following a sale in 1947. In 1952, she was sold to Greece and renamed Soussana II. A further sale in 1955 saw her renamed Georgios Matsas.
On 18 April 1955, she struck a reef off Muros, Spain and sank. Although Georgios Matsas was refloated two months later, she was declared a constructive total loss. Despite this, she was sold to Panama, repaired and renamed Sur, serving until 1965 when she was scrapped.

As built, the ship was 211 feet 2 inches (64.36 m) long, with a beam of 30 feet 7 inches (9.32 m). She had a depth of 13 feet 1 inch (3.99 m) and a draught of 16 feet 2 inches (4.93 m). As built the ship had a GRT of 787. She was 736 NRT, 1,135 DWT.

"Laura" is a song by American glam rock band Scissor Sisters and is the lead track on their self-titled debut album (see 2004 in music). It was released as the band's first single in October 2003 in the UK, placing at #54 in the UK Singles Chart (see 2003 in British music). It was later re-issued on June 7, 2004, charting at #12 in the same chart (see 2004 in British music).
In Australia, the song was ranked #58 on Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2004.

Laura (TV series)
Laura (also known as Laura en América, Laura sin censura, Laura de todos, and Laura en acción) is a Peruvian talk show, hosted by lawyer Laura Bozzo.
The show originated as Laura en América ("Laura in America") and first aired on America TV in February 1998. Bozzo had previously done a similar program called Intimidades ("Intimacies") in 1997. Laura is known for displaying various social problems such as domestic violence, adultery, alcoholism and drug addiction.
Laura en América was the most-watched program in Peru in the late 1990s and one of the most tuned-in talk show in several Latin American countries. The talk show stopped broadcasting in 2001, after the Alberto Fujimori controversy, which involved Bozzo. In the following years, Bozzo continued to record different programs with the same format, but were only transmitted abroad for the Telemundo International chain or cable television. Bozzo had planned to return to Peruvian television through Panamericana Television in 2007, but the project was canceled due to differences between her and her producers. She then returned for a short time at the Peruvian channel ATV, with a program of the same format called Laura en acción ("Laura in action"), which was cancelled due to several complaints.
