SS Frosta

SS Frosta was a Norwegian oil tanker, built in 1961 in Germany by Bremer Vulcan and owned by A/S J. Ludwig Mowinckels Rederi of Bergen, Norway. The Frosta was 664 feet in length, 90 feet in breadth, with a gross weight of 22,850 tons, and powered by a steam turbine engine, rated at 16,800 horsepower. It was rebuilt as a chemical tanker in 1971. It was decommissioned in 1979.

Ferry disaster

The MV George Prince ferry disaster occurred on the morning of 20 October 1976. The ferry George Prince was struck by the SS Frosta, which was traveling upriver on the Mississippi River. The collision occurred at mile post 120.8 above Head of Passes, less than three-quarters of a mile from the construction site of the bridge that would replace the ferry 7 years later. The ferry was crossing from Destrehan, Louisiana on the East Bank to Luling, Louisiana on the West Bank. SS Frosta was sailing from Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on 4 October, bound for Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ninety-six passengers and crew were aboard the ferry when it was struck, and 78 people lost their lives.

Frosta

Frosta is the smallest municipality in Nord-Trøndelag county, Norway. The administrative centre is the village of Frosta. The municipality is located in the Trondheimsfjord, on a peninsula just north of Trondheim. It also includes the island of Tautra which is connected to the mainland by a causeway bridge.

General information

Frosta was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). It is one of very few municipalities in Norway with unchanged borders since that date.

Name

The Old Norse form of the name was (also) Frosta. The meaning of the name is unknown. Historically, the name was also spelled Frosten.

Coat-of-arms

The coat of arms was granted in 1987. The arms show a gold sceptre or mace on a green background. The coat-of-arms is inspired by the old seal of the Frostating, where King Magnus VI the law-mender is sitting with a lily sceptre in his hand.

The Church of Norway has one parish (sokn) within the municipality of Frosta. It is part of the Sør-Innherad deanery and the Diocese of Nidaros.

She-Ra

She-Ra is introduced in the animated movie The Secret of the Sword as Force Captain Adora, who was an agent of the Evil Horde that rules the planet Etheria. She discovers that she is the long-lost twin sister of Prince Adam of Eternia, having been stolen by the Horde's leader, Hordak, as a baby. She is granted the Sword of Protection, which parallels He-Man's Sword of Power, gaining the power to transform into She-Ra, her secret identity.

She-Ra and Princess Adora are voiced by Melendy Britt in the 80s series.

Swift Wind

Spirit is the horse of Adora. When she transforms into She-Ra he also transforms into Swift Wind. He has a mate named Starwind and they have a young colt. Unlike Cringer, who turns into Battle Cat (In He-man series), Spirit's size doesn't change, but he gets wings, and has a unicorn like horn.
