Utah State Route 9

State Route 9 (SR-9) is a state highway in southern Utah, serving Zion National Park. It starts at the western terminus at exit 16 on I-15, passing through Zion National Park, and ending at the eastern junction with US-89. The entire length of the highway has been designated the Zion Park Scenic Byway. There is a fee to travel through Zion National Park, but the Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway is open to private vehicles year-round. A separate fee is required for vehicles 7'10" wide and/or 11'4" tall or larger. This fee pays for a park employee to stop traffic from the other side of the Zion - Mt. Carmel Tunnel to allow the larger vehicles to pass through. There is a smaller tunnel in Zion National Park that does not require an escort. Commercial vehicles are prohibited from using SR-9 and are directed to use SR-20 instead.

Alabama State Route 9

State Route 9 (SR-9) is one of the longest state highways in the U.S. state of Alabama. From the Florida state line north to Montgomery, SR-9 is the unsigned partner route of U.S. Highway 331. As a signed route, the southern terminus of SR-9 is at its junction with U.S. Highway 231 and State Route 21 at Wetumpka, and the northern terminus of the route is at the Georgia state line east of Cedar Bluff, where the route becomes State Route 20.

US-331 enters Alabama from Florida near the border town of Florala. The route is one of several routes used to connect Alabama and points north with the Gulf of Mexico beaches in northwest Florida. From the state line to Montgomery, US-331 and SR-9 follow a north–south orientation. North of Montgomery, SR-9 as a standalone route assumes a more northeast-southwest orientation, and passes through rural areas and small towns in the eastern part of the state.

California State Route 9

State Route 9 (SR 9) is mainly a rural and mountainous route in the U.S. state of California that travels 35 miles (56 km) from SR 1 near Santa Cruz to SR 17 in Los Gatos, passing through the San Lorenzo Valley and the Saratoga Gap. Daily traffic is between 3,200 and 34,500 cars.

Route description

SR 9 between the Los Gatos town limit and the intersection with SR 35 is part of the Scenic Highway System.

SR 9 begins in the city of Santa Cruz where River Street intersects with SR 1. It heads north, paralleling the San Lorenzo River. The road is a winding two lane road for the majority of its length until it approaches Fruitvale Avenue in Saratoga. SR 9 winds through the mountains north of Santa Cruz, passing through the communities of Felton, Ben Lomond, Brookdale, and Boulder Creek, where State Route 236 departs from SR 9 to provide access to Big Basin Redwoods State Park. SR 236 later rejoins SR 9 near Castle Rock State Park.

At the summit of the Santa Cruz mountains (the junction with SR 35 and after a steep climb), there is a vista point offering a (somewhat obstructed) view of the Bay Area. The vista point is the route's highest point at around 2,608 feet (762 m). At this junction, SR 9 passes into Santa Clara County.
