  • My Lucky Star (2013 film)

My Lucky Star (Chinese: 非常幸运; pinyin: Fēicháng Xìngyùn) is a 2013 Chinese romantic adventure film directed by Dennie Gordon and starring Zhang Ziyi and Leehom Wang. The film serves as a prequel to the 2009 film Sophie's Revenge, with Zhang, Ruby Lin and Yao Chen reprising their roles.

It is the first Chinese-language film to be directed by an American woman—Dennie Gordon—known for the American comedies Joe Dirt and What A Girl Wants as well as her work on TV series like Burn Notice, White Collar, 30 Rock and The Office. My Lucky Star's screenplay is a similarly collaborative effort, co-written by Amy Snow, Chris Chow, Hai Huang and Yao Meng (based on a story by Snow, Gordon and producer Ming Beaver Kwei). Zhang co-produced, reuniting with her Sophie's Revenge producers Kwei and Ling Lucas.

    Plot

    My Lucky Star (novel)

My Lucky Star (2006) is the third book by novelist Joe Keenan. It is a gay-themed comedy about three friends who get caught up with the movie business, blackmail, and handsome male closeted movie stars.

My Lucky Star won the Lambda Literary Award for humor in 2006. It won the prestigious Thurber Prize for American Humor in October 2007.

    Plot summary

Gilbert Selwyn's mother has remarried once more—this time to a successful but aging Hollywood producer. Gilbert, ever the schemer, lifted a few plot points from Casablanca (i.e., plagiarized the entire film and put a new title on it) and convinced his new stepfather to promote the script to actor Stephen Donato's producer. Gilbert convinces his friends, Philip Cavanaugh and Claire Simmons, to move to Hollywood to help him rewrite the script. They quickly uncover his deception. But since Gilbert told the studio executives that the script was mostly Philip and Claire's, they must help rewrite the screenplay or else find any chance of a career ruined.

Jole Richard Hughes, better known by his stage name S3RL (pronounced Serl), is an Australian UK hardcore DJ, record producer and musician from Brisbane. In mid-2015 his single, "Genre Police" (featuring Lexi), peaked at No. 10 on the Norwegian singles chart.

    Career

Jole Richard Hughes is a UK Hardcore musician from Brisbane who performs as S3RL (or DJ S3RL). In October 2010 he appeared as a DJ at the inaugural Bam! Festival at Ivory's Rock in south-east Queensland.

One of S3RL's popular tracks is "Pretty Rave Girl" (2006), which uses the melody from "Daddy DJ" (November 1999) by the French dance act of the same name. S3RL has contributed tracks for several UK hardcore compilation series, including the Bonkers series. Some of his other works are "Fantasy Land", "Raver Dimension", "Rainbow Girl", "Friendzoned", "Sek C Raver", "Little Kandi Raver", "Pika Girl", "Keep on Raving Baby", "Bass Slut", "Feel the Melody" and "MTC". S3RL uses Reason software by Propellerhead to create his music.

Many of his songs reference geek culture such as anime, manga and video games. In 2011, he founded his own label, EMFA Music, through which all of his productions and remixed works are released. In May 2012 the label issued, "Press Play Walk Away", as a single by S3RL and SynthWulf, a fellow hardcore DJ.

Woke up just the other day
fell out of bed and my dog ran away
car won't start and the weather was cold and gray
I got stuck in a traffic jam
My major meeting didn't go as I planned
looks like it's gonna be another one of those days
    (chorus)
I got a roof over my head
someone to love me in a 4 poster bed and
I can play this here guitar and
    Thank my lucky stars
Politicians speak and it makes me ill
People are dying just for a thrill
maybe it's just evolution gone astray
The climate's too hot, music's gotten cold
I'm living like a health nut but I still grow old
you do what you can on the edge of the Milky Way
    (chorus)
    gonna thank my lucky stars
wrapped up in the problems of the day
just remember there's no rewind and no replay
so don't you worry cause it ain't gonna fix a thing
    (harp)
Woke up just the other day
Thought that maybe I'd be ok
Cause the story I'm been getting ain't written anywhere
    (chorus)
    gonna thank my lucky stars
    (chorus)
    gonna thank my lucky stars
    Thank you stars
