The Spiders (film)

The Spiders (German: Die Spinnen) is a German silent serial adventure film written and directed by Fritz Lang. It was released in two parts in 1919 and 1920. Two more parts were originally planned but never made.

Plot

In San Francisco, well-known sportsman, adventurer and traveller Kay Hoog announces to his club that he has found a message in a bottle with a map drawn by a Harvard professor who has gone missing. The message with the map tells of a lost Incan civilization that possesses an immense treasure. He starts an expedition to find the treasure. The crime syndicate "Die Spinnen" sends out a rival expedition led by the beautiful but dangerous Lio Sha. At the Golden Lake Hoog saves the Inca priestess Naela and falls in love with her. He takes her home with him after discovering a mysterious clue about a diamond ship. Back in San Francisco, Lio Sha declares her love for Hoog but he rejects her in favour of Naela. Lio Sha has Naela murdered and Kay Hoog swears revenge.

Patrick Farley

Patrick Sean Farley is a freelance illustrator and Web page designer working out of Oakland, California.

Biography

Patrick Farley is the creator of comics under the anthology "Electric Sheep Comix". Scott McCloud cites him as an early pioneer of the webcomics movement. He is the author of a semi-autobiographical webcomics graphic novel The Guy I Almost Was and of several other Web based comics or stories, listed below.

In addition to the traditional strip format Farley has presented work in the infinite canvas mode peculiar to the more innovative web comics, and he has done many stories using 3D tools such as Poser and Bryce.

The Web Comics Examiner wrote a story about Farley's work in December 2004 titled "Patrick Farley, Apocalyptic Utopian".

Farley appeared in Adventures Into Digital Comics, a 2006 documentary on the comics industry.

Electric Sheep Comix

Electric Sheep Comix is a Web-based anthology of Farley's work. The name was taken from the title of Philip K. Dick's novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?". It was originally hosted at the domain e-sheep.com, but the domain registration lapsed, and after being offline for 2 years, the site was restarted in August 2009, at a new domain.

The Spiders (American band)

The Spiders were an R&B vocal group from New Orleans, who achieved their greatest fame in the 1950s. Within the span of two years, the group had all their five entries, on the US R&B chart hit the Top 10.

The group was founded as a gospel group in 1947 under the name Zion City Harmonizers, and later sang as the Delta Southernaires, recording and performing on radio under the latter name in 1952-53. Cosimo Matassa convinced them to begin singing secular music, and in 1953 the five-piece signed with Imperial Records under the name The Spiders. They had a string of U.S. hits in the middle of the decade, including "I Didn't Want to Do It" (R&B #3, 1954), "21" (R&B #9, 1955), and "Witchcraft" (R&B #5, 1956). The last of these was written by Dave Bartholomew and was later covered by Elvis Presley.

Members Joe Maxon and Matthew West left the group in 1955, and were replaced by Issacher Gordon and Bill Moore. Chick Carbo signed with Atlantic Records as a solo artist late in 1956, and by the next year the group had splintered; their last single as a group was 1957's "That's My Desire", though the song "Tennessee Slim", recorded in the middle of the decade, was issued as a single in 1960.

S.O.S. (Too Bad)

"S.O.S. (Too Bad)" is a song by American hard rock band Aerosmith. It was released in 1974 as their third single from their second album Get Your Wings.

Background

Written by Steven Tyler, it is a hard rocking song focusing on sex and sleaze, with a chorus of "I'm a bad, lonely school boy, and I'm a rat, and it's too bad, can't get me none of that." The song starts off with a fast drum beat and basic guitar riff, then slows down, and builds up once again, with Steven Tyler's rapid-fire, fierce lyrics accompanying. The song's lyrical content and musical styles are in the vein of "blooze", a grittier hard rock version of blues music, often with lyrics focused on sex, drugs, and urban life.

The song has remained a fan favorite and has been a staple in the setlists on Aerosmith's most recent tours, the Rockin' the Joint Tour and the Route of All Evil Tour.

S.O.S. stands for "Same Old Shit".

The Chronicles of Life and Death

The Chronicles of Life and Death is the third full-length studio album by Good Charlotte, released on October 5, 2004, through Daylight Records. The album was released with two different versions: a "Life" and a "Death" version which came with different cover art (designed by guitarist Billy Martin) and a special bonus track. There is also a Japanese version that has a different cover art as well as the special bonus tracks from both the "Life" and "Death" versions, including the hidden track "Wounded" at the end of the album. The Chronicles of Life and Death is the first and only album to feature Chris Wilson on drums.

Composition

The album has been widely considered a departure from their previous two albums, mixing new elements such as lyrical topics into Good Charlotte's youthful sound. Some sources have referred to the album as "emo". The album has different music styles. The opener track "Once Upon A Time: The Battle of Life and Death" is an instrumental opener with strings, a Japanese choir and an organ. "The Truth" is a piano ballad, and "I Just Wanna Live" has a hip hop beat with synthesized strings. Lyrically, the album also focuses on darker and more serious subject matter. "The World Is Black" is about apathy, "S.O.S" is about suicide, and "In This World (Murder) is about corporate greed.

S.O.S. (Pink Lady song)

"S.O.S." is a song Yū Aku and Shunichi Tokura wrote for Japanese idol duo Pink Lady. It was released as the group's second single in November 1976, and became their first number-one hit on the Japanese Oricon singles chart in the following year.

"S.O.S." features Morse code which stands for the song title at the opening of the song. Because its sound effect might be mistaken for genuine Morse code, intro of the track has been omitted occasionally when the song has played on the radio. The song has been one of favorites for both the duo and the fans, and it is also one of the essential songs performed in their concerts.

Reception

Led by commercial success of its predecessor "Pepper Keibu" which reached the number-4 on the Japanese Oricon chart, "S.O.S" climbed the top of the country's hit parade three months after its release. A single remained on the chart for 38 weeks, selling approximately 650,000 copies. According to the record label Victor, "S.O.S." has sold in excess of 1.2 million units to date.
