S.L. Benfica

Sport Lisboa e Benfica (Portuguese pronunciation: [spɔɾ liʒˈboɐ i bɐ̃ȷ̃ˈfikɐ]), commonly known as Benfica, is a sports club based in Lisbon, Portugal. It is best known for its professional football team, who play in the Primeira Liga, the top flight of Portuguese football. Currently, Benfica are back-to-back Portuguese champions.

Founded in 1904 by a group of people led by Cosme Damião, Benfica is one of the "Big Three" clubs in Portugal that have never been relegated from the Primeira Liga – the other two are rivals FC Porto and Sporting CP. The team is nicknamed Águias (Eagles) for the symbol atop the club's crest, and Encarnados (Reds) for the shirt colour. Since 2003, their home ground has been the Estádio da Luz, which replaced the original one. Benfica is the most supported Portuguese club and the European club with the biggest percentage of supporters in its own country, having more than 156,000 paying members. The club's official anthem, "Ser Benfiquista", refers to its supporters who are called Benfiquistas. Benfica is honoured in three Portuguese Orders: those of Christ, of Merit and of Prince Henry.

S.L. Benfica (roller hockey)

Sport Lisboa e Benfica is a professional roller hockey team based in Lisbon, Portugal. Benfica play in Portuguese first division where they are the most successful club, having won a record 22 titles. They are the current champions (without defeat). Benfica is also the world's oldest club to play roller hockey without interruption.

International success

Benfica's only European trophy up to the season of 2009–10 was a single CERS Cup won in the 1990–91 season but in the 2010–11 season the club's European fate began to change. They made their way up to the 2010–11 CERS Cup Final Four, eventually winning the trophy for the second time (deafeating CP Vilanova in the final by 6–4, at their home ground). With this victory, Benfica had the chance to play the CERH Continental Cup against the CERH European League winner HC Liceo La Coruña. The opponent refused to play the cup's final and Benfica won it by 10–0 (disqualification), conquering their first Continental Cup.

On 2 June 2013, Benfica won its first CERH European League defeating FC Porto at Dragão Caixa by 6–5 (aet), in an all Portuguese final. That made them the fourth Portuguese team to lift the most important clubs European trophy. On 2 November 2013, Benfica won its second Continental Cup defeating CE Vendrell of Spain (5–3, 5–0), thus becoming the only Portuguese club to win the trophy twice. On 16 November 2013, Benfica won the FIRS Intercontinental Cup, defeating Sport Recife by 10–3 and winning the only missing trophy for the club and the second one for Portuguese roller hockey, after the 1992 Óquei de Barcelos win.

  • Buddhist ethics

Buddhist ethics are traditionally based on what Buddhists view as the enlightened perspective of the Buddha, or other enlightened beings such as Bodhisattvas. The Indian term for ethics or morality used in Buddhism is Śīla (Sanskrit: शील) or sīla (Pāli). Śīla in Buddhism is one of three sections of the Noble Eightfold Path, and is a code of conduct that embraces a commitment to harmony and self-restraint with the principal motivation being non-violence, or freedom from causing harm. It has been variously described as virtue, right conduct, morality, moral discipline and precept.

Sīla is an internal, aware, and intentional ethical behavior, according to one's commitment to the path of liberation. It is an ethical compass within self and relationships, rather than what is associated with the English word "morality" (i.e., obedience, a sense of obligation, and external constraint).

Sīla is one of the three practices foundational to Buddhism and the non-sectarian Vipassana movementsīla, samādhi, and paññā as well as the Theravadin foundations of sīla, Dāna, and Bhavana. It is also the second pāramitā. Sīla is also wholehearted commitment to what is wholesome. Two aspects of sīla are essential to the training: right "performance" (caritta), and right "avoidance" (varitta). Honoring the precepts of sīla is considered a "great gift" (mahadana) to others, because it creates an atmosphere of trust, respect, and security. It means the practitioner poses no threat to another person's life, property, family, rights, or well-being.
