Four American tourists — Eric, his girlfriend Stacy, her best friend Amy, and Amy's boyfriend Jeff, a medical student — are vacationing in Mexico. They befriend a German tourist named Mathias and a trio of hard-drinking Greeks who go by the Spanish nicknames Pablo, Juan, and Don Quixote. Mathias convinces "Pablo" (his name is actually Demetris Lambrakis) and the Americans to accompany him as he joins up with his brother Heinrich who had followed a girl he'd met to an archeological dig. The six of them head down to the rural Yucatan in search of Heinrich. The driver of the pick up truck who takes them to the outskirts tells one of the girls that the place to which they are going is 'not good'; the girl doesn't quite get the message and leaves anyway, despite the driver's offer to take them to a different and new place. Near a Mayan village, they discover a disguised trail which leads to a large hill covered in vines and surrounded by bare earth. The group approach the hill, ignoring the warnings of a young boy who had followed them to the village. The boy soon returns with armed adults who force the group to stay on the vine-covered hill. Among the underbrush, they discover the body of Heinrich, already overgrown with vines.

Prunus mume is an Asian tree species classified in the Armeniaca section of the genus Prunus subgenus Prunus. Its common names include Chinese plum and Japanese apricot. The flower is usually called plum blossom. This distinct tree species is related to both the plum and apricot trees. Although generally referred to as a plum in English, it is more closely related to the apricot. The fruit of the tree is used in Chinese, Japanese and Korean cooking in juices, as a flavouring for alcohol, as a pickle and in sauces. It is also used in traditional medicine.
The tree's flowering in late winter and early spring is highly regarded as a seasonal symbol.
Prunus mume originated in the south of mainland China around the Yangtze River and was later introduced to Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam. It can be found in sparse forests, stream sides, forested slopes along trails and mountains, sometimes at altitudes up to 1,700–3,100 metres (5,600–10,200 ft), and regions of cultivation.

I'll meet you where the moonlight falls
I'll meet you where the statues stand
I'll meet you beneath the falling walls
We await the gods to show their hand
Amongst the ruins
Feel the warmth of the unconquered sun
Light the torches, the swords of the sun
He looks down with a mocking laugh
At the fools lonely in the dark
Amongst the ruins
We rise with the life rune
And we fall with the death rune
We will wait beneath the yew together
We will lie beneath the yew together
Forever!
