Velocifero

Velocifero is the fourth studio album by English electronic band Ladytron and their first to be released by Nettwerk. The album was made available on the iTunes Store as of 19 May 2008, followed by a physical release on 2 June in the United Kingdom and on 3 June elsewhere. Velocifero peaked at number seventy-five on the UK Albums Chart, becoming the band's second highest-charting album to date in the UK (after Gravity the Seducer reached number seventy-two in 2011). It was also their first album to chart on the US Billboard 200, reaching number 131.

According to band member Reuben Wu, "velocifero" literally means "bringer of speed", and is also the name of a classic retro-styled scooter. "Black Cat" and "Kletva" are both sung entirely in Bulgarian. "Kletva" (which means "oath") is a cover of a song from a solo album by Kiril Marichkov of Bulgarian rock band Shturtzite. Daniel Hunt provided additional vocals on "Versus".

Velocifero produced three singles: "Ghosts", "Runaway" and "Tomorrow".

Runaway (TV serial)

Runaway is the story of a young boy who takes to the streets to get away from the torment he suffers at school and daily problems at home. Life at home is rife with daily doses of scoldings from his half-drunk mother, and his two younger brothers Dean and Jack pay him scant attention until noticing he is missing. On his journey, Sean meets a girl named Molly who takes him to a crumbling mill where her family lives. The series follows the police search for Sean, and how his disappearance affects his family.

Runaways was part of a short season on CBBC about children and homelessness, along with a 5-part documentary "Sofa Surfers". The program was first shown as three separated half-hour episodes in March 2009, and later as an 82-minute film.

Resistance (Burning Spear album)

Resistance is a studio album by Jamaican reggae singer Burning Spear.

It was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album at the 27th Grammy Awards in 1985. Resistance, Spear's first release for Heartbeat, is regarded as one of Burning Spear's most solid albums, and reflects the atmospheric sound that defined Spear in the early eighties. This sound is also reflected in the albums Fittest of the Fittest and Farover, both of which were released on EMI. Burning Spear would venture into more modern, electric driven rhythms on his follow-up release People of the World, released on Slash Records.

Resistance (V franchise)

This is a list of the known members of the Resistance, a fictional worldwide movement consisting of a large number of groups dedicated to fighting the Visitors in the V science fiction franchise.

The Atkins

David Atkins was a scientist and a widely respected Professor at Caltech University, as an expert in psycho-cybernetics and computer technology. Later as he became a computer Doctor working for Science Frontiers, where he became friends with Kyle Bates. He was a good person and had a son named Henry, whom he was proud of and had higher expectations for when he got older. When the Visitors came and started discrediting scientists, they ruined his career, and was fired from his position. To make ends meet, he opened a small market shop called "Atkins Deluxe Market", which he ran with Henry. Despite him having lost everything during the First Invasion, David still wanted his son to be a great scientist and taught him everything he knew about computers, leading Henry to become an expert himself and run many personal projects in making computers better.

Drug resistance

Drug resistance is the reduction in effectiveness of a drug such as an antimicrobial, anthelmintic or an antineoplastic in curing a disease or condition. When the drug is not intended to kill or inhibit a pathogen, then the term is equivalent to dosage failure or drug tolerance. More commonly, the term is used in the context of resistance that pathogens have "acquired", that is, resistance has evolved. Antimicrobial resistance and antineoplastic resistance challenge clinical care and drive research. When an organism is resistant to more than one drug, it is said to be multidrug-resistant. Even the immune system of an organism is in essence a drug delivery system, albeit endogenous, and faces the same arms race problems as external drug delivery.

The development of antibiotic resistance in particular stems from the drugs targeting only specific bacterial molecules (almost always proteins). Because the drug is so specific, any mutation in these molecules will interfere with or negate its destructive effect, resulting in antibiotic resistance.
