Run & Hide is the second single taken from Tear the Signs Down, the third studio album by Welsh band The Automatic. The single was announced on BBC Radio Wales. Run & Hide was released on 1 March 2010, 1 week prior to Tear the Signs Down on 8 March 2010.

Music & lyrics

The song is the first single to feature Paul Mullen providing lead vocals, it also uses a string arrangement, and was originally titled "Parasol".

Release

The song was performed acoustically with "Steve McQueen", "Interstate" and a cover of "She Wolf" on Alan Thompson's BBC Radio Wales evening show. The song was officially premiered on BBC Radio 1 at 8:55 PM 19 January 2010 on Zane Lowes Show.

Music video

The music video for Run & Hide was shot at the live music venue Cardiff Coal Exchange on 5 January 2010 and features the band playing against an LED light rig and in a cellar, pictures of the shoot were posted on Facebook and Twitter.

Run & Hide was the German entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005, performed in English by Gracia.

As Germany is a member of the "Big Four" (along with Spain, France and the United Kingdom), the song had pre-qualified for the final of that year's Contest - Germany had also finished in the top ten at the previous Contest, had that been required. Thus, the song was performed seventeenth on the night, following Ukraine's GreenJolly with "Razom nas bahato" and preceding Croatia's Boris Novković with "Vukovi umiru sami". At the close of voting, it had received 4 points, placing 24th (last) in a field of 24.

With lyrics by Bernd Meinunger (under the pseudonym "John O'Flynn") the song is a heavy rock number, with Gracia telling a former lover that "You'd better run and hide" and that she's sick of wasting her money and time on him.

The song's poor placing was one of the reasons for a debate over the merits of the "Big Four", as these four countries finished the Contest in the bottom four places - but still had automatic entry to the next final.

Fót is a town in Pest county, Budapest metropolitan area, Hungary.

Location

Fót is about 17 km (10.56 mi) north of the edge of Budapest. The North Hungarian foothills lie to the west. The nearest settlement to the west is Dunakeszi, to the northeast are Csomád and Veresegyház, to the east is Mogyoród and Budapest is to the south. The highest point of nearby Somlyó Hill reaches 287 m above sea-level.

The older areas of Fót feature the notable Catholic Szeplőtelen Fogantatás (Immaculate Conception) Church, built between 1845 and 1855, and the Károlyi Palace, both designed by architect Miklós Ybl.

Steyr AUG

The Steyr AUG is an Austrian bullpup 5.56×45mm NATO assault rifle, designed in the 1960s by Steyr Mannlicher GmbH & Co KG (formerly Steyr-Daimler-Puch). The AUG (Armee-Universal-Gewehr—"universal army rifle") was adopted by the Austrian Army as the StG 77 (Sturmgewehr 77) in 1978, where it replaced the 7.62×51mm StG 58 automatic rifle (a licence-built FN FAL). In production since 1978, it is the standard small arm of the Austrian Bundesheer and various national police units.

The rifle and its variants have also been adopted by the armed forces of Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malaysia, New Zealand, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Pakistan, the Falkland Islands Defence Force and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
