"Run Devil Run" is a Korean song by South Korean girl group Girls' Generation. It is the lead single of the repackaged version of Oh! (2010), titled Run Devil Run (2010).

The song was released on March 17, 2010 in South Korea by S.M. Entertainment, and January 25, 2011 in Japan by Nayutawave Records.

Background

"Run Devil Run" was written by Alex James, busbee, and Kalle Engström. In 2008, American singer Kesha recorded a demo of the song. Later, the song was pitched to Girls' Generation and Kesha's version was never released. In 2011, Girls' Generation recorded a Japanese version of "Run Devil Run", which was released as a double A-side with "Mr. Taxi".

Composition

The song has been noted to use the schaffel beat.

Charting

Its first number one on network television was on KBS's Music Bank, where it won over Kara's "Lupin" and 2AM's "Jalmot Haesseo" (English: "I Was Wrong"). Moreover, "Run Devil Run" was ranked at number one on the Gaon Singles Chart for two weeks.

Rabbit Fur Coat

Rabbit Fur Coat is an album by Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley, featuring The Watson Twins. It was released in the United States on January 24, 2006 by Team Love. Lewis has described the album as a "sort of soul record". The album contains a cover of the Traveling Wilburys song "Handle With Care", featuring Ben Gibbard (of Death Cab for Cutie), Conor Oberst (of Bright Eyes) and M. Ward.

Lewis embarked on her first solo tour to support the album, with Johnathan Rice and either Whispertown 2000 or The Blow opening. She also appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson in support of the album.

This album is the 8th release of Team Love Records.

Listeners of All Songs Considered, NPR's online music show, voted the album the eighth best of 2006.

A vinyl reissue of Rabbit Fur Coat was released in January 2016, marking its 10th anniversary. Lewis was also joined in early 2016 by M. Ward and The Watson Twins for a brief tour celebrating the anniversary.

Oh! (Girls' Generation album)

Oh! is the second studio album by the South Korean girl group Girls' Generation. It was released on January 28, 2010 in Korea. It features the lead single "Oh!". A repackaged version, Run Devil Run was released in March 2010, with new track "Run Devil Run" as the lead track.

The album is listed by Gaon Albums Chart as the second best-selling album of 2010 in South Korea, with 197,934 copies sold, and the repackaged version at fourth with 136,851 copies.

History

Initial interest in the album was high, as physical and online pre-orders of the album totaled 150,000 copies. On its first day of sale, Oh! sold 30,000 copies. The album was released internationally via iTunes on February 8, 2010.

The group began promoting their album on MBC's Music Core on January 30. The group also performed "Show! Show! Show!" as a part of their special comeback performance on Music Core and SBS's Inkigayo.

Upon the album's full release, various album tracks charted in the top ten of various charts.

Run Devil Run (Paul McCartney song)

"Run Devil Run" is a 1999 original Paul McCartney composition written in a Chuck Berry style as the title track of his 1999 covers album Run Devil Run. It is one of three original songs on the 15-song album, along with "Try Not to Cry", and "What It Is", and was also released as a promotional 7" vinyl single.

Title and lyrics

The title originated from the name of a brand of bath salts or Run Devil Run oil a folk remedy to ward off evildoers which McCartney had picked up at Miller's Rexall Drugs, a hoodoo store in Atlanta. The mock up of a shop with the name "Run Devil Run" on the album cover is of Miller's Rexall Drugs, with the name altered to fit the title song. In the album press release interview prior to release of the album the interviewer asked McCartney about the Genesis of the title track. McCartney answered as follows:

Run Devil Run (album)

Run Devil Run is the eleventh solo studio album by Paul McCartney, released in 1999. It features mostly covers of both familiar and obscure 1950s rock and roll songs, along with three original McCartney compositions written in the same style, including the title track. As his first project following first wife Linda's death in 1998, McCartney felt the need to get back to his roots and perform some of the music he loved as a teenager. On 14 December 1999, McCartney returned to the Cavern Club stage to play a set publicising the new album.

Background

Following the death of his wife Linda McCartney in April 1998, Paul McCartney had a period of a year of mourning. Wanting to keep things fresh, a lesson he had learned from his experiences working on The Beatles Anthology project and put to use on Flaming Pie, McCartney planned to cut the album as quickly as possible, much in the way the Beatles had recorded in their early years. Asking Chris Thomas to help produce, McCartney booked time at Abbey Road Studios to undertake his quest.
