Rumor

A rumor or rumour (see spelling differences) is "a tall tale of explanations of events circulating from person to person and pertaining to an object, event, or issue in public concern". However, a review of the research on rumor conducted by Pendleton in 1998 found that research across sociology, psychology, and communication studies had widely varying definitions of rumor.

In the social sciences, a rumor involves some kind of a statement whose veracity is not quickly or ever confirmed. In addition, some scholars have identified rumor as a subset of propaganda.

Rumors are also often discussed with regard to "misinformation" and "disinformation" (the former often seen as simply false and the latter seen as deliberately false, though usually from a government source given to the media or a foreign government). Rumors thus have often been viewed as particular forms of other communication concepts.

Early work

French and German social science research on rumor locates the modern scholarly definition of it to the pioneering work of the German William Stern in 1902. Stern experimented on rumor involving a "chain of subjects" who passed a story from "mouth to ear" without the right to repeat or explain it. He found that the story was shortened and changed by the time it reached the end of the chain. His student was another pioneer in the field, Gordon Allport.

The following is a list of episodes of Lizzie McGuire, a television comedy series that was broadcast on the Disney Channel, an American satellite and cable network aimed at children. The series originally aired from January 12, 2001 to February 14, 2004. The show was created by Terri Minsky and produced by Stan Rogow. The show's target demographic was preteen and adolescents, and was a ratings hit, drawing in 2.3 million viewers per episode. Production was completed in 2002 after the show fulfilled its 65 episode order. The success of the television series led Disney Channel to produce a feature film spin-off based on the show, titled The Lizzie McGuire Movie.

The series stars Hilary Duff as Lizzie McGuire, who is an ordinary teenager dealing with issues confronted by adolescents in their daily life. A unique feature of the show is that her thoughts and emotions are expressed by her sarcastic animated alter ego.Lalaine and Adam Lamberg play the roles of Miranda and Gordo, who are Lizzie's best friends. Other co-stars include Jake Thomas, Hallie Todd and Robert Carradine as Matt, Jo and Sam McGuire respectively. On November 23, 2004, the first twenty-two episodes of the show were released in a DVD box set in the United States.

Flockaveli

Flockaveli is the debut studio album by American rapper Waka Flocka Flame; it was released on October 5, 2010, by 1017 Brick Squad Records, Warner Bros. Records, and Asylum Records. The album is titled after the Italian political theorist Machiavelli, and was inspired by American rapper Tupac Shakur, whose final stage name and pseudonym before his death was Makaveli. It was recorded at Next Level Studios in Houston, Nightbird Studios in Los Angeles, and S-Line Ent. in Atlanta.

Upon its release, Flockaveli received generally positive reviews from music critics, who complimented its musical intensity, brazen lyrics, and gangsta rap ethos. It debuted at number six on the Billboard 200, with first-week sales of 37,000 copies, and, as of August 15, 2011, has sold 285,000 copies in the United States.

Music and lyrics

Flockaveli is a crunk album. It was primarily produced by Lex Luger, whose bombastic, grimly-programmed production incorporates drill 'n' bass 808 trills, bass kicks, hand claps, confrontational beats, dense synthesizers, and shifting sub-bass layers. Waka Flocka Flame's unrefined street raps feature constant ad libs. According to Pitchfork Media's David Drake, the songs reduce gangsta rap to its archetypical themes: "hypermasculine children of the drug trade, reckless fatalism, intensity, and physicality ... Waka's aggression is the survivalist reaction of the powerless, directed toward the threats of the immediate environment."

Powerhouse (TV series)

PowerHouse is a United States television series produced by the Educational Film Center at Northern Virginia ETV and aired on PBS for 16 episodes in 1982 (two episodes never aired). It billed itself as "a 16-part series for young people and their families," with the target audience being primarily kids, preteens, teenagers,& young adults, and it was widely praised by educational groups. The series was later rerun by Nickelodeon in the mid-1980s.

Description

Set in Washington, DC, PowerHouse is focused on the adventures of a racially and ethnically diverse group of five teenagers and one adult from the inner city, based at a former boxing and sports gym headquarters turned community center for kids and teens. The center was founded by Brenda Gaines, a woman who inherited the place from her late father, a former boxing champion. The basic theme of the series is that every person is a source of creativity and power. “We all have a PowerHouse deep down inside,” it said in the theme song of the show.

Powerhouse (1997 band)

Powerhouse is a British production duo of Hamilton Dean and Julian Slatter who reached #38 in the UK with "Rhythm of the Night" in December 1997.
