Rude Removal

Rude Removal is a cartoon segment originally produced for the animated television series Dexter's Laboratory for Cartoon Network. It was intended to air as part of an episode from the second season in 1997, but was never broadcast on television. In the segment, Dexter and Dee Dee are accidentally split into two pairs, a polite pair and a rude pair, with the latter depicted as using profanity with bleep censorship. The segment was only screened at some animation festivals before finally being released online by Adult Swim on January 22, 2013.

Plot

Dexter invents The Rude Removal System, a machine to remove the rudeness from his sister Dee Dee. However, Dee Dee thinks Dexter is the one who is rude. They start fighting and both wind up in the machine. Inadvertently, the Rude Removal System is activated, splitting the pair into well-behaved and rude halves. The rude pair use profanity and harbor destructive tendencies. They proceed to insult their mother and destroy the house and Dexter's lab. Dexter and Dee Dee trick their rude halves back into the Rude Removal System and reverse the process, combining the rude and polite halves and resolving the problem. The segment ends with Dexter and Dee Dee's mother holding a bar of soap, poised to wash the filthy words from their mouths.

Rudeness

Rudeness (also called effrontery) is a display of disrespect by not complying with the social norms or etiquette of a group or culture. These norms have been established as the essential boundaries of normally accepted behaviour. To be unable or unwilling to align one's behavior with these norms known to the general population of what is socially acceptable is to be rude and are enforced as though they were a sort of social law, with social repercussions or rewards for violators or advocates.

Rudeness "constituted by deviation from whatever counts as politic in a given social context, is inherently confrontational and disruptive to social equilibrium" (Kasper, 1990, p. 208). Rudeness, particularly with respect to speech, is necessarily confrontational at its core.

Forms of rudeness include acting inconsiderate, insensitive, deliberately offensive, impolite, a faux pas, obscenity, profanity and violating taboos such as deviancy. In some cases, an act of rudeness can go so far as to be a crime, for example, the crime of hate speech.

  • Removal (band)

Removal is a Canadian experimental music group formed in 1997 in Vancouver. They have recorded and released six studio albums to date. They produce and release instrumental only music on their full-length albums, occasionally partnering with other artists to provide lyrics and vocals for an existing musical track.

Removal has been described alternatively as progressive metal or experimental rock. There are no vocal microphones on stage with the band during their live performances, and all communication with the audience outside of the music itself is done through text and images projected on the wall behind the band.

The band undertake regular tours through Europe, going so far as to keep a van of tour equipment at the ready in Amsterdam for their roughly annual tours. Removal used the 1980 Ford Econoline van that accompanied Terry Fox on the Marathon of Hope for touring in North America for many years.
