RMIT University

RMIT University (officially Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) is an Australian public university of technology and design based in Melbourne, Victoria. RMIT was founded in 1887 by grazier, politician and public benefactor the Hon Francis Ormond—as the Working Men's College of Melbourne. Its foundation campus is located in Melbourne City, and is a contiguous part of the northern area of the city centre. It opened as a night school for instruction in art, science and technology—to support the industrialisation of Melbourne during the 19th century. It had an initial enrollment of 320 students. As of 2013, it has an enrollment of around 82,000 students across vocational, undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

In addition to its Melbourne City foundation campus, RMIT also has two radial campuses in the Melbourne metropolitan area—located in the northern suburbs of Bundoora and Brunswick; as well as training and research sites in the Melbourne metropolitan area and the Grampians state region—located in the western suburb of Point Cook and the town of Hamilton respectively. Outside Australia, it has two branch campuses in Asia—located in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, Vietnam; and a liaison centre in Europe—located in Barcelona, Spain.

History

Institute of Technology started as Fresno Institute of Technology. Later the name was shortened to the Institute of Technology. The school now operates three California campuses (Clovis, Modesto, Redding) and one in Salem, Oregon. The institute is operated by Denver-based BrightStar Education Group.

Training programs

Four main program fields are taught: Culinary, Technical, Medical, and Business fields. Within each field, students are given the opportunity to specialize in specific areas. For example, they have the opportunity to become a Culinary Arts Specialist, Network Support Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Licensed Vocational Nurse, or Human Resource Administrator.

Founded in the mid-1990s, Melbourne Institute of Technology is a tertiary educational institution in Australia. With campuses in Melbourne and Sydney, it offers a range of academic programs in Business, Accounting, Management, Marketing, Information Technology, Computer Networking, and Telecommunications Engineering, ranging from undergraduate (university pathway Diploma and Bachelor) through to postgraduate degrees.

Melbourne Institute of Technology is an affiliated institute of the Federation University Australia and offers a range of FedUni undergraduate and postgraduate programs at its Melbourne and Sydney campuses. FedUni resulted from merging the University of Ballarat and the Monash University, Gippsland campus. It is the first regional, multi-sector university in Australia. The partnership between FedUni and MIT involves FedUni controlling the quality of the courses and conferring the qualifications, while MIT provides the facilities, lecturers, tutors and student services. All academic staff at MIT are approved to teach by FedUni. Students enrolled in FedUni courses at MIT, attend MIT campuses as FedUni enrolled students and upon successful completion are awarded FedUni degrees.

Melbourne is a compilation album by the Models, recorded in the early 1980s and released in 2001. The album was distributed by Shock Records.

The album was compiled by dedicated Models fan, Mark Burchett (a band booking agent for Premier Artists), who compiled sixteen cuts of the Models' material before they signed with Mushroom Records, consisting of demos, studio cuts and live tracks with the assistance of Melbourne public radio station 3RRRFM. The liner notes for the album are written by Australian Rock historian Ian McFarlane.

Melbourne City Centre

Melbourne City Centre (sometimes referred to as "Central City", and colloquially known as simply "The City") is an area of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is the area in which Melbourne was established in 1835, by founders John Batman and John Pascoe Fawkner, and its boundaries are defined by the Government of Victoria's Melbourne Planning Scheme. Today it comprises the two oldest areas of Melbourne; the Hoddle Grid and Queen Victoria Market, as well as sections of the redeveloped areas of Docklands and Southbank/Wharf. It is not to be confused with the larger local government area of the City of Melbourne.

It is the core central activities district (CAD) of Melbourne's inner suburbs and the major central business district (CBD) of Greater Melbourne's metropolitan area, and is a major financial centre in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. The Hoddle Grid in the City Centre is home to Melbourne's famed alleyways and arcades and is renowned for its distinct blend of contemporary and Victorian architecture as well as expansive parks and gardens which surround its edges. The City Centre is home to five of the six tallest buildings in Australia. In recent times, it has been placed alongside New York City and Berlin as one of the world's great street art meccas, and designated a "City of Literature" by UNESCO in its Creative Cities Network.
