Pearls of Passion is Roxette's debut album, released on 31 October 1986. It was eventually re-released internationally on CD on 31 October 1997 with some previously unreleased or single-only bonus tracks. It was re-mastered and re-released again in 2009. The album was originally only released in Scandinavia and Canada.
The album peaked at #2 on the Swedish albums chart but apart from Canada and Scandinavia it failed to get released outside Sweden. However, Roxette went on to record and release their follow-up, Look Sharp!.
"Neverending Love", "Goodbye to You", "Soul Deep" and "I Call Your Name" were released as singles, although none of them were hits. "It Must Have Been Love" was later used [with the reference to Christmas changed to a neutral winter reference ("It's a hard Christmas Day" was replaced with "It's a hard winter's day")] in the movie Pretty Woman. "Soul Deep" reappeared on their album Joyride in 1991 and "So Far Away" was recorded again for Tourism in 1992.
There was a banquet of believers when we walked into the room.
December days of Christmas felt like days in June.
And there were morning lights, and sunrise chimes echoed all around.
Now's the time for weary minds, the moon is northern bound.
And you know I'm going back, going back today.
Back to where I came from. And you know I'm going back,
going back to stay.
To the alleys where pearls of passion came my way.
Well there's a promise in the twilight, it's so innocent and wild.
Two hearts that break the silence, you can hear a distant cry.
And there's emptiness and loneliness, it's more or less the same.
Well let's run between the raindrops, babe,
and catch the midnight train.
And you know I'm going back, going back today.
Back to where I came from. And you know I'm going back,
going back to stay. To the alleys where pearls of passion came my way.
And you know I'm going back, going back today.
Back to where I came from. And you know I'm going back,
going back to stay. To the alleys where pearls of passion came my way.
And you know I'm going back, going back today.
Back to where I came from. And you know I'm going back,
going back to stay. To the alleys where pearls of passion came my way.
