Highway 60 (Israel)

Highway 60 or Route 60 (Hebrew: כביש 60, "Kvish Shishim") is a south-north intercity road in Israel and the West Bank that stretches from Beersheba to Nazareth.

Route

The route is also known as the "Way of the Patriarchs" (Hebrew: דרך האבות) since it follows the path of the ancient highway that runs along the length of the central watershed, and which figures prominently in the travels of the Biblical patriarchs.

From its junction with Highway 40 in Beersheba to the city's outskirts, Route 60 is a dual carriageway with at-grade intersections. While it continues on to serve as the main north-south artery between Israeli settlements and Palestinian communities such as the cities of Hebron and Bethlehem in the southern West Bank, it is a two-lane, shoulderless road until past Hebron at Gush Etzion Junction, where it regains its lane-separation until short of Bethlehem, that section having recently been widened. Upon entering Jerusalem, its lanes are again mostly separated as it serves as a central artery in the city center. In the northern quarters it becomes a separate grade freeway with multiple interchanges, from where it continues through the central and northern West Bank as a two-lane road, not being divided again until the stretch between Afula and its terminus in downtown Nazareth.

California State Route 60

State Route 60 is a state highway in the U.S. state of California. It runs from Interstate 10 near the Los Angeles River in Los Angeles east to I-10 in Riverside County, with overlaps at State Route 57 and Interstate 215.

Route description

This route is part of the California Freeway and Expressway System.

Route 60 serves the cities and communities on the eastern side of the Los Angeles metropolitan area and runs along the south side of the San Gabriel Valley. The west terminus of the freeway is at the East Los Angeles Interchange complex. The east terminus is at the junction with Interstate 10 (I-10) in Beaumont. The freeway is known as the Pomona Freeway west of its junction with State Route 91 and Interstate 215 in Riverside. East of this interchange the freeway is known as the Moreno Valley Freeway until its terminus at its junction with Interstate 10. The freeway shares the alignment of the Orange Freeway, State Route 57 for some 2 miles (3.2 km) in Diamond Bar and also shares the alignment of Interstate 215 for about 5 miles (8.0 km) in Riverside. The route takes its number from former U.S. Route 60. Route 60 terminates on the east coast at Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Massachusetts Route 60

Route 60 is an eastwest state highway running through the northern suburbs of Boston.

Route description

Route 60 begins at U.S. Route 20 in Waltham, just east of downtown. It then heads eastward, passing through the center of Belmont before intersecting in Arlington with Route 2 at that route's Exit 59 eastbound. From there, Route 60 joins U.S. Route 3 and Route 2A for a brief 0.1 miles (0.16 km) concurrency, starting at Massachusetts Avenue. It then turns eastward off of that route, crossing the Mystic River into Medford.

In Medford it passes the West Medford commuter rail station before intersecting Route 38 at Winthrop Square. From there Route 60 heads into downtown Medford, splitting at Main Street (just north of the Mystic Valley Parkway and Route 16) before rejoining at Medford City Hall to pass under Interstate 93 at Exit 32. Route 60 continues eastward, crossing Route 28 (the Fellsway West) at Stevens Square before entering Malden. In Malden, Route 60 passes through the west end past Highland Avenue and downtown, passing the Malden Center MBTA station, which has access to both the Orange Line and the Haverhill Line. Route 60 intersects Route 99, and goes through Linden Square in the eastern part of town before entering the city of Revere. In Revere, the route intersects U.S. Route 1 at Copeland Circle, where the Northeast Expressway was planned to continue northward to carry Interstate 95 to its current path north of Route 128. (The route was never completed due to opposition, but the ramp stubs are visible crossing the northeastern part of the circle.) From Copeland Circle, Route 60 continues eastward, south of the Rumney Marsh Reservation. It crosses Route 107 at Brown Circle before turning southward as American Legion Highway, finally ending at the intersection of Route 1A and the eastern end of Route 16, at Mahoney Circle. Route 60's right of way continues through the circle and links directly to that of Route 1A's.

Israel (/ˈɪzrəl/ or /ˈɪzrəl/; Hebrew: יִשְׂרָאֵל Yisrā'el; Arabic: إِسْرَائِيل Isrāʼīl), officially the State of Israel (Hebrew: מְדִינַת יִשְׂרָאֵל Medīnat Yisrā'el [mediˈnat jisʁaˈʔel]; Arabic: دولة إِسْرَائِيل Dawlat Isrāʼīl [dawlat ʔisraːˈʔiːl]), is a country in the Middle East, situated at the southeastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea and the northern shore of the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea. It shares land borders with Lebanon to the north, Syria in the northeast, Jordan on the east, the Palestinian territories (which are claimed by the State of Palestine and are partially controlled by Israel) comprising the West Bank and Gaza Strip to the east and west, respectively, and Egypt to the southwest. It contains geographically diverse features within its relatively small area. Israel's financial and technology center is Tel Aviv, while Jerusalem is both its self-designated capital (unrecognised by the United Nations) and its most populous individual city under the country's governmental administration. Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem is internationally disputed.

Israel (footballer)

Israel David Bascón Gigato (born 16 March 1987 in Utrera, Seville), known simply as Israel, is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a right midfielder.

Club career

Betis

A product of Real Betis's youth system, Israel made his debut for the first team against Real Sociedad, on 16 March 2005 (nine minutes, 0–1 away loss). During the 2004–05 season he made a further seven La Liga appearances, adding three in the Spanish Cup, where he scored his first goal for the Andalusians, against CD Mirandés.

In the following campaign Israel played again in just eight matches, all but one as a substitute, while also appearing in both European competitions, coming from the bench against Liverpool and R.S.C. Anderlecht in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

During the 2006 off-season, in August, vastly underplayed at Betis due to the presence of Joaquín in his position, Israel spent time at Chelsea on trial after a move to Real Madrid Castilla failed to materialise. His trial was unsuccessful, however, and the player then left for Mérida UD on a loan deal.

Land of Israel

The Land of Israel (Hebrew: אֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל ʼÉreṣ Yiśrāʼēl, Eretz Yisrael) is one of several names for an area of indefinite geographical extension in the Southern Levant. Related biblical, religious and historical English terms include the Land of Canaan, the Promised Land, the Holy Land, and Palestine (q.v. Israel (disambiguation)). The definitions of the limits of this territory vary between passages in the Hebrew Bible, with specific mentions in Genesis 15, Exodus 23, Numbers 34 and Ezekiel 47. Nine times elsewhere in the Bible, the settled land is referred as "from Dan to Beersheba, and three times it is referred as "from the entrance of Hamath unto the brook of Egypt” (1 Kings 8:65, 1 Chronicles 13:5 and 2 Chronicles 7:8).".

These biblical limits for the land differ from the borders of established historical Israelite and later Jewish kingdoms; over time these have included the United Kingdom of Israel, the two separated kingdoms of Israel (Samaria) and Judah, the Hasmonean Kingdom, and the Herodian Kingdom, which at their heights ruled lands with similar but not identical boundaries.
