Massachusetts Route 3

Route 3 is a southward continuation of U.S. Route 3, connecting Cambridge, Massachusetts with Cape Cod. All of it, except for the northernmost end in downtown Boston and Cambridge, is a freeway.

The section from Boston to Braintree is also marked as Interstate 93 and U.S. Route 1 and is known in downtown Boston as the Central Artery, and south of downtown as the Southeast Expressway. In Braintree, I-93 and US 1 split to follow the Yankee Division Highway to Interstate 95, and Route 3 continues south on its own, as the Pilgrims Highway. This section extends to a junction with U.S. Route 6 in Sagamore, just before the Sagamore Bridge over the Cape Cod Canal where Route 3 originally ended at rotary. Replacement of this rotary with an elevated "flyover" interchange was completed in November 2006.

Because Route 3 and U.S. Route 3 are treated as the same route by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), mileposts increase continuously from Bourne to the New Hampshire border.

Connecticut Route 3

Route 3 is a 14.48-mile-long (23.30 km) route connecting Middletown to the Glastonbury-East Hartford town line. It passes through the towns of Cromwell, Rocky Hill, Wethersfield, and Glastonbury. The northernmost 3 miles (4.8 km) of Route 3 is an expressway that was originally intended for the cancelled Interstate 491.

Route description

Route 3 begins at Route 66 in Middletown. It is a secondary, minor arterial road from Middletown up to its interchange with Interstate 91 in Wethersfield. It crosses, but does not have a direct interchange with the Route 9 freeway in Cromwell (access is via Route 372) and with Interstate 91 in Rocky Hill. The last 3.5 miles (5.6 km) of Route 3 from the Interstate 91 interchange in Wethersfield to East Hartford is freeway. Then Route 3 freeway crosses the Connecticut River on the William H. Putnam Memorial Bridge from Wethersfield into Glastonbury. The freeway has one intermediate exit into Glastonbury. Route 3 ends at an interchange with the Route 2 freeway just after crossing into East Hartford. The last 0.75 miles (1.21 km) of Route 3 is the merging ramp from Route 3 northbound to Route 2 westbound.

U.S. Route 6 in Massachusetts

U.S. Route 6 in Massachusetts (US 6) is a 117.952-mile (189.83 km) long portion of the cross-country U.S. Route 6 highway connecting Providence, Rhode Island to Fall River, New Bedford, and Cape Cod. In the Fall River and New Bedford areas, US 6 is a secondary highway paralleling Interstate 195. On Cape Cod, US 6 is the primary highway interconnecting the towns of the area. The expressway section in this area is also known as the Mid-Cape Highway. The route is also alternatively signed as the "Grand Army of the Republic Highway."

Route description

Seekonk to the Sagamore Bridge

US 6 is a four-lane lane arterial road for approximately its first 54 miles (87 km) from the Rhode Island line (crossing into Massachusetts from East Providence to Seekonk) to the Cape Cod Canal, except for sections in New Bedford, where it runs along two one-way city streets, and Fall River, where it runs along a two-lane avenue.

US 6 enters Massachusetts into Seekonk, just south of Interstate 195. The first mile and a quarter passes through the busy Seekonk retail area. The route passes through Rehoboth and the western half of Swansea, with access to Interstate 195 at Massachusetts Route 136, which heads southward into Bristol County, Rhode Island. The road then crosses over I-195 at the latter's exit 3, just east of the terminus of Massachusetts Route 118. The road heads through the southern end of Somerset before crossing the Veterans Memorial Bridge over the Taunton River into the city of Fall River. On the Somerset end of the bridge, Massachusetts Route 103 ends and Massachusetts Route 138 joins US 6 to cross the bridge. Prior to late 2011, Routes 6 and 138 followed a previous alignment over the Brightman Street Bridge, which has since closed.

Route 3 (Paraguay)

National Route 3 (officially, Ruta Nacional N° 3 "Gral. Elizardo Aquino", better known as Ruta 3) is a highway in Paraguay, which runs from Asunción to one of the northern cities in the Oriental Region, Bella Vista. It crosses the Capital District and 5 departments. It has many junctions with other national routes.
