Route 36 (bar)

Route 36 is an illegal after-hours lounge in La Paz, Bolivia, and, according to The Guardian, the world's first cocaine bar. Although cocaine, an addictive stimulant derived from the coca plant, is illegal in Bolivia, political corruption and affordability of locally produced cocaine have resulted in Route 36 becoming a popular destination for thousands of drug tourists each year. Many customers learn about the bar's existence through travel websites and by word of mouth promotion. To avoid complaints from nearby business owners or residents, Route 36 does not operate in the same location for more than a few weeks at a time. Its location can only be found by word of mouth information.

Route 36 is a short north–south state highway in southeastern Massachusetts.

Route description

From its terminus at Route 106 in Halifax, Route 36 abuts the eastern shore of East Monponsett Pond. The highway then crosses the MBTA Commuter Rail at Halifax Station. The highway runs near Silver Lake to the west and crosses Route 27 before ending at Route 14 just south of Pembroke Center. This road is locally famous as the location of the former Hobomock Inn, a tavern linked to the famous Massachusetts politician, James Michael Curley. The legend is that Curley designated this rural road as a state highway so that his cronies from Boston could find it more easily following state highway signage. It is also a fact that after it was so designated snow removal for Route 36 became a state, rather than town, responsibility.

Virginia State Route 36

State Route 36 (SR 36) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. The state highway runs 16.70 miles (26.88 km) from SR 602 and SR 669 near Matoaca east to SR 10 in Hopewell. SR 36 is the main highway between Petersburg and Hopewell; within each independent city, the state highway follows a Byzantine path. The state highway connects those cities with Ettrick in southern Chesterfield County and Fort Lee and Petersburg National Battlefield in Prince George County.

Route description

SR 36 begins west of Matoaca at an intersection with a pair of secondary state highways: SR 669, which heads north as Church Road; and SR 602, which heads west as River Road toward Winterpock and Amelia Court House. SR 36 heads east as River Road, which parallels the north side of the Appomattox River at the southern edge of Chesterfield County. The state highway expands to a four-lane divided highway at Ettrick, where the highway crosses over CSX's North End Subdivision. SR 36 crosses the tracks just south of Petersburg Amtrak station. The state highway continues southeast along two-lane Chesterfield Avenue and passes the campus of Virginia State University before crossing the Appomattox River into the city of Petersburg. SR 36 enters Petersburg on Fleet Street, then immediately turns east onto Grove Avenue to head toward Old Towne Petersburg.
