Roundabout (play)

A playground roundabout (or merry-go-round) is a flat disk, frequently about 2 to 3 metres (6 ft 7 in to 9 ft 10 in) in diameter, with bars on it that act as both hand-holds and something to lean against while riding. The disk can be made to spin by pushing or pulling on its handles, either by running around the outside, or by pulling and re-grabbing as it spins, from a stationary stance. Often found in school yards or in parks, these offer riders (typically children) a dizzying ride when either others spin the wheel, or by spinning it themselves by running around it, and then jumping on. People may take turns between riding and spinning. One type of roundabout which differs significantly in terms of how the rotary motion is provided is a Swedish device called the HAGS Pedal Roundabout, which resembles four small exercise bikes attached to a tubular steel ring, which travel on a circular steel rail on the ground. The ring is attached to a vertical pole in the center by four spokes. There is a driving wheel hidden under the casing of each of the "exercise bikes" (the casings prevent toes being run over) and the roundabout is turned by the pedaling action of the riders.

Play (Robyn song)

"Play" is a song by Swedish recording artist Robyn from her second studio album My Truth (1999). Robyn wrote the track in collaboration with Ulf Lindström and Johan Ekhé, who also helmed production. BMG Sweden released it as the album's second single on 21 July 1999 with the non-album song "Good Thang" as its B-side. Musically, "Play" contains some world music influences and a "playful" vibe.

"Play" received positive critical response and became Robyn's seventh consecutive top 40 entry on the Sverigetopplistan singles chart, where it peaked at number 31. The singer performed the song live while promoting the parent album, but the single itself received limited promotion. As with the album, "Play" was not serviced outside of Sweden.

Background and composition

"Play" was written by Robyn, Ulf Lindström and Johan Ekhé. Lindström and Ekhé recorded Robyn's vocals and produced the track at Lifeline Studios in Stockholm, Sweden. Almnils Erson, Pär-Ola Claesson, Gunilla Markström and Olle Markström played the strings and Niklas Gabrielsson provided handclaps, while Lindström and Ekhé played all other instruments. The duo also managed arrangement and mixing; both these tasks were done at Lifeline Studios. Britta Bergström and Angela Holland sang backing vocals alongside Robyn. Björn Engelmann and Henrik Jonsson were enlisted to master the track at Cutting Room Studios in Stockholm.

Play, P4 is a brand name of the fourth Polish cellular telecommunications provider.

Network

Play is the third biggest cellular network in Poland. PLAY uses EGSM 900 and GSM1800 for its 2G services, UMTS 2100 and UMTS 900 for 3G and LTE1800 and LTE2100 for LTE. Its MCC is 260-06. Thanks to domestic roaming with Polkomtel (Plus) and Centertel (Orange), Play is a nationwide cellular carrier.

Native Network

As of November 3, 2013, Play Mobile has 3288 EGSM 900 BTS, 4143 UMTS 2100 nodeB and 2175 UMTS 900 nodeB's. UMTS 900 and UMTS 2100 network Play calls the 4G network. Currently 82% of population is covered with Play's native 4G network and 40% of population with 2G network. 4G is available in more than 300 cities and towns around Poland. Play started building its 3G network at the beginning of its existence (2007) and announced that its goal is to cover all of Poland with UMTS while provide GSM services through roaming. Play began building its GSM network in March 2009 in apparent bid to reduce roaming costs. EGSM 900 BTS and UMTS 900 nodeB use the same licence frequency. In place when are EGSM 900 usually is not UMTS 900. Play Mobile Broadband (Play Online) products does not used 2G network.

Us Against the World (Play album)

Us Against the World is the debut album by Swedish girl group Play, released on 12 December 2001. In the United States, it was released as the self-titled EP Play. The album spent six weeks on the Billboard 200, peaking at #85 on 17 August 2002, and on 24 March 2003 the album was certified Gold by the RIAA. The songs "Us Against the World" and "Cinderella" were released as singles.

Roundabout (song)

"Roundabout" is a song by the English progressive rock band Yes. It is the first single released from their fourth studio album, Fragile (1971). "Roundabout" has become one of the best-known songs by Yes. The song was released as a shortened single with the track "Long Distance Runaround" in January 1972. It peaked at No. 13 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number 10 on the Cash Box Top 100.

Lyrics and meaning

Written by singer Jon Anderson and guitarist Steve Howe during The Yes Album Tour, the lyrics are obscure, and have been the subject of much debate on music discussion sites. The most commonly accepted interpretation is that the lyrics are about the personal life of Jon Anderson and his hoped-for return home after the tour ends.

Composition

The song begins with an acoustic guitar solo in E minor from Steve Howe. This lasts for about 40 seconds. Thereafter, Chris Squire's bass enters along with Bill Bruford's drums. Howe continues his guitar part in octaves, leading up to Anderson's entrance and the first verse. The first two verses continue in this manner. The bridge ("In and around the lake...") starts after the second verse. Anderson and Howe continue their parts. The keyboard enters thereafter before Squire and Bruford. A vocal harmony from Anderson, Howe, and Squire tops off the bridge.

Roundabout (1957 film)

Roundabout is a television movie, or rather a live television play, which aired on Australian television in 1957. Broadcast 4 January 1957 on ABC station ABV-2, it is notable as the first example of television drama produced in Melbourne Australia. "Official" television broadcasting in the city had only begun 2 months earlier. Cast included British actor Patrick Horgan, Mary Ward and Beverley Dunn. The original TV listing in The Age newspaper described the plot as "a woman's reactions to her husband's suspected affair with another woman". Duration was 30 minutes. Production was by Bill Eldridge. It is not known if a kinescope recording was made of the broadcast. (note: kinescope recording, also known as telerecording, was an early method of recording live television, used in the days before video-tape became widespread). Some of ABV-2 other dramatic one-offs of 1957 were kinescoped so they could be shown in Sydney, but it is not known if any of these kinescopes still exist.

La Ronde (1950 film)

La Ronde is a 1950 film directed by Max Ophüls and based on Arthur Schnitzler's 1897 play of the same name. The title means "the round-dance".

The film was nominated for two Academy Awards; for Best Writing and Best Art Direction (Jean d'Eaubonne).

Plot summary

Eleven episodes tell the stories of ten illicit sexual encounters involving a prostitute, a soldier, a chambermaid, her employer's son, a married woman, her husband, a young girl, a poet, an actress, a count, and the prostitute again. After each encounter, one of the two partners forms a liaison with the next person, resulting in an unbroken "circle" (ronde) by the end.
