Roshan (telco)

Roshan (Persian: روشن‎‎) is a leading Afghan telecommunications provider, serving nearly 6.0 million active subscribers.

In January 2003, Roshan was awarded the second GSM license in Afghanistan. This was at a time when there was only one other mobile phone operator (Afghan Wireless) in Afghanistan. Due to decades of civil wars. there was almost only limited telecommunications infrastructure in place in the country. Prior to the fall of the Taliban, phone lines were not accessible to the population, and Afghans had to travel abroad to make international calls.

Roshan, which means "light" or "hope" in Persian, is one of Afghanistan’s leading telecommunications providers. Today, Roshan’s GSM network reaches 240 cities and towns across all of Afghanistan's 34 provinces. The network covers over 60% of the population, including the most remote rural areas.

Roshan is one of the largest investors, private companies and taxpayers in Afghanistan. It has invested nearly $600 million in the telecommunications infrastructure in Afghanistan. Roshan is also continuing to expand its network in areas where there is no or limited cellular coverage.

Vaada Raha

Vaada Raha (English: I Promise) is a Hindi film, released on 11 September 2009. It stars Bobby Deol in the lead role and Kangana Ranaut and Atul Agnihotri in special appearances. It is directed by Samir Karnik. Some part of the film was shot in Ephesus, Turkey.

Plot

After receiving a generous grant from the American Medical Association Dr Duke Chawla (Bobby Deol) who always gives hope to his patients, proposes to his sweetheart, Pooja (Kangana Ranaut), and both arrange to get married soon. While returning home that night, he meets with an accident and wakes up in the East West Hospital paralce of recovery. Shattered and devastated, he is in for more trauma and shock when he finds out that Pooja will have nothing to do anymore. Upset, bitter and in despair, he loses his will to live, refuses to take medicine nor any treatment, and awaits death. One day, Roshan (Dwij Yadav) a young boy enters Duke's life to rekindle the hope again. He starts telling him stories of the world seen outside his window and motivates him to take his medicines and start his physiotherapy, day by day Duke starts improving and one fine day he realises that Roshan was suffering from terminal cancer and he died leaving a new life for Duke.

Roshanlal Nagrath (14 July 1917 – 16 November 1967), better known simply by his first name Roshan, was a Hindi film music composer. He was the father of the actor and film director Rakesh Roshan and music director Rajesh Roshan and paternal grandfather of Hritik Roshan.

Early life and education

Roshan was born in Gujranwala, Punjab, British India (now part of Punjab in Pakistan). He began music lessons at a young age, and later attended Marris College (Bhatkhande College of Music) in Lucknow under the training of Pt. S N Ratanjankar (Principal of the University). In the early 1940s, Khawaja Khurshid Anwar, Programme Producer/Music, AIR Delhi, hired Roshan as Staff Artist for Esraj, the instrument which he used to play.

Career

In 1948, Roshan came to Mumbai to find work as a Hindi film music director and became Assistant of Music Composer Khawaja Khurshid Anwar in film Singaar. He struggled until meeting Kidar Sharma, who gave him the job of composing for his film Neki aur Badi (1949). While this film was a flop, Roshan emerged as a player on the Hindi film music scene with the film Baawre Nain, released the following year.
