Early years [link]

Coming from a musical family (her mother is respected session vocalist Joy Yates; and her father pianist Dave MacRae);[2] Jade's musical education began at a young age; learning the piano at age three and going on to learn the violin at age eight. After finishing her Higher School Certificate at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, she started singing in pubs and clubs around Sydney. As well as singing in a band with Mahalia Barnes, daughter of leading Australian rock singer Jimmy Barnes, she supported Renée Geyer and Jackie Orszaczky. Her work with Mahalia Barnes lead to work as a backup singer with Jimmy Barnes.

MacRae started doing session work as a singer with Australian electronic acts such as Disco Montego, Endorphin and Pnau. UK dance producer Ian Pooley recruited her to sing on the track "Heaven" which became a dance hit in Germany.

While singing as a backup singer with Barnes, MacRae was signed by Michael Hegarty of Workstation Records. They recruited a couple of Los Angeles producers to produce tracks on the album including Warryn Campbell and White Chocolate. They also worked with a number of Australian producers including Israel, Jarrad Rogers and the Elite Fleet, who produced the first single "You Make Me Weak". MacRae wrote or cowrote every song on the album. After its completion MacRae signed with Roadshow Music, an offshoot of Sony Music Australia. "You Make Me Weak" reached the top 50 of the Australian singles charts in early November, while her follow-up single "So Hot Right Now" debuted in the top 20 in February 2005.

MacRae released her debut self titled album in September 2005 and it featured her released singles including "You Make Me Weak", "So Hot Right Now" featuring Israel and "Superstar" featuring 6 Pound. A fourth single "Up And Do Your Thing" was also released as a promo/radio single. The album led to 3 ARIA Award nominations in 2006.

She performed the Australian National Anthem at the 2005 World Cup Qualifying match, against Uruguay at Sydney's Telstra stadium.

[edit] It Takes Two - present

MacRae signed on to participate in the Australian celebrity television singing show, It Takes Two in 2006 and was partnered with Australian cricket legend Michael Bevan. The pair were eliminated on 2 July 2006. That year she performed the Australian national anthem at the 2006 NRL Grand Final.

Jade returned to It Takes Two in May 2007, this time partnered with Home and Away's Bobby Morley; who later appeared in Jade's music video "In The Basement" (released the same year). They were eliminated on the show on 12 June 2007.

In mid 2007 she toured around Australia as part of the "Broad" show (with Deborah Conway, New Buffalo, Anne McCue and Abbe May).

Jade returned to It Takes To in 2008 and was partnered with actor Paul O'Brien. They were eliminated in week 8.

After several delays, Jade's second album Get Me Home was released in October 2008, alongside new single "I Wanna Be In Love"

Jade began dating hip hop artist Phrase in 2008, and the couple are now married.[3] She is now based in Melbourne.

In late 2009 MacRae collaborated with Space Invadas (Katalyst and Steve Spacek) on the single "Life". In November, Phrase revealed via twitter that MacRae was rehearsing musicians for new recordings.

As a songwriter, Jade has had several of her compositions recorded by other artists - such as "Gonna Take Some Time" (Jimmy and Mahalia Barnes), "Ride My Tempo" (by Ida Corr) and "Glamorous" (by Belgian pop star Natalia).

Jade had a brief stint as acting co-host (in place of Emma) for Sydney's Edge 96.1 radio station.

Jade has also appeared several times on the Australian musical comedy/quiz/panel shows "Spicks And Specks" and "RocKwiz"

    I Wanna Be In Love

    by: Jade Macrae

It's not alright, it's not ok
    It's the second time today
You pushed me off and you're acting kind of selfish
Don't you know, that it hurts
    Every time you walk away
I'm still here holding on, it's not painless
I wanna be in love, I wanna be in love
I wanna be in love again
I wanna be in love, I wanna be with you
Talking like we did back then
I wanna be in love, I wanna be in love
I wanna be in love again
How long before it's all gone?
I wanna be in love again
You don't know, you don't care
    Putting cirlces in a square
When all I want is for us to be together
What the hell can I do to get this through to you?
Can I turn it around could we ever?
    Don't you know I...
I wanna be in love, I wanna be in love
I wanna be in love again
I wanna be in love, I wanna be with you
Talking like we did back then
I wanna be in love, I wanna be in love
I wanna be in love again
How long before it's all gone?
I'm so tired of falling in and out of everything we used to think was our love
I'm so tired of falling in and out of everything we used to think was our love
I'm so tired of falling in and out of everything we used to think was our love
