Rory Macdonald

Roderick (Rory) Macdonald (Scottish Gaelic: Ruaridh MacDhomhnaill; born 27 July 1949, Dornoch, Sutherland) is the bassist of the Scottish Celtic rock band Runrig, as well as their primary songwriter with his younger brother, Calum Macdonald. Rory tends to write the melody, and Calum the lyrics. Since former lead singer Donnie Munro left the band in 1997, Rory has taken lead vocal duties on songs in the band's catalogue written in the Scots Gaelic language, as the band's new lead singer, Bruce Guthro, is not a Gaelic speaker.

In the mid to the late 1960s, Macdonald was a part of a band called The Skyvers.

Macdonald previously attended the Glasgow School of Art and had a promising career as a graphic designer until Runrig went 'professional'. Later putting these skills into practise, he designed the sleeve notes for Runrig's Recovery and Heartland albums.

Early life

Macdonald was born in Dornoch, Sutherland. His father, Donald John MacDonald of North Uist, Outer Hebrides, was a World War II veteran. The family moved to North Uist, when Rory was about four years old. On arrival in Lochmaddy, his younger brother Calum was born.

Rory Joseph MacDonald (born July 22, 1989) is a Canadian mixed martial artist currently signed with the UFC fighting in the welterweight division. He is a former King of the Cage Lightweight Champion. As of October 10, 2015, he is the #1 contender in official UFC welterweight rankings and ranked the #3 welterweight in the world by Sherdog.

Mixed martial arts career

MacDonald started his training with David Lea at age of 14 and his fight team Toshido Fighting Arts Academy out of Kelowna, B.C. He moved to Montreal and joined Tristar Gym, home of former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre, after his loss to Carlos Condit.

MacDonald made his professional debut at the age of sixteen winning against Terry Thiara at an Extreme Fighting Challenge event.

King of the Cage

He then moved to 2–0, by beating Ken Tran in his King of the Cage (KOTC) debut. He won a fight in Rumble in the Cage and then signed exclusively with King of the Cage. He won two fights after signing and was then rewarded with a shot at the KOTC Canadian Lightweight title, against Kajan Johnson, which MacDonald won. MacDonald then was awarded a shot at the King of the Cage Lightweight Championship, against Clay French, MacDonald knocked him out in the second round. After the fight MacDonald moved up to welterweight and successfully defeated Elmer Waterhen by first round armbar.
