Hotline
A hotline is a point-to-point communications link in which a call is automatically directed to the preselected destination without any additional action by the user when the end instrument goes off-hook. An example would be a phone that automatically connects to emergency services on picking up the receiver. Therefore, dedicated hotline phones do not need a rotary dial or keypad. A hotline can also be called an automatic signaling, ringdown, or off-hook service.
For crises and service
True hotlines cannot be used to originate calls other than to preselected destinations. However, in common or colloquial usage, a "hotline" often refers to a call center reachable by dialing a standard telephone number, or sometimes the phone numbers themselves.
This is especially the case with 24-hour, noncommercial numbers, such as police tip hotlines or suicide crisis hotlines, which are manned around the clock and thereby give the appearance of real hotlines. Increasingly, however, the term is found being applied to any customer service telephone number.

Hot Line (US title: The Day the Hot Line Got Hot, French: Le Rouble à deux faces or Le Téléphone rouge) is a 1967 French/ Spanish international co-production Comedy spy thriller directed by Etienne Périer and starring Robert Taylor in his final feature film and Charles Boyer.It was released in the US by American International Pictures.
Plot
An American and Russian agent find themselves duped by a double agent who works for both of them. Also involved are a naive IBM computer operator, and the telephone operator at the hot-line center in Stockholm.

Hot Line (song)
"Hot Line" is a song recorded by American family group The Sylvers, from their 1976 album Something Special. It was written by Freddie Perren and Kenneth St. Lewis. It became an international Top 10 hit, and is a Gold record.
The song tells the story of a lovelorn young man who anticipates getting in touch with his beloved over the phone. He requests that the telephone operator connect the call, but not to listen in. He also says that he's willing to get in touch with the FBI and the CIA in order to locate the girl he's interested in speaking to.
"Hot Line" was The Sylvers' second biggest hit, peaking in early 1977 at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, number 4 on the Cash Box chart, and number 3 on the R&B charts. Billboard ranked the song as the 25th biggest hit of 1977.
On the WLS survey in Chicago, the song reached number one for two weeks. It was their 11th biggest song of the year.
