Root Boy Slim (July 9, 1944 – June 8, 1993) was the stage name assumed by American musician, Foster MacKenzie III. Born in Asheville, North Carolina, he was raised in suburban Maryland, a few minutes from D.C. after his family relocated there. An exceptionally bright child, with parents able to afford a series of costly prep schools, upon graduation, MacKenzie attended Yale University on a scholarship, but returned to Maryland upon receiving his Bachelor's degree. Once back in Maryland, he formed his own alternative rock band, including some young but talented musicians including tenor saxophonist, Ron Holloway, and an ensemble titled Crying Out Loud. Mackenzie's act was from that time billed as Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band, and found a dedicated fan base, although it remained confined to the Washington, D.C. area.
MacKenzie died in his sleep in his home in Orlando, Florida at the age of 48, and is buried in Fletcher, North Carolina. He was inducted into the Washington Area Music Association Hall of Fame in 2004.
Under the bleachers at the tractor pull
On a hayride when the moon is full
In a hayloft in the barn
I like to love you here on the farm
They say we got shit between our toes
We do some lovin, goodness knows
I take my baby to the lower forty
When I feel my oats when I'm feelin sporty
Mom and papa drive to town
That's when our country love come down
Just about any place, any time y'all
Down by the lake in the warm sunshine
I got you and you got me
Makin love by the crabapple tree
Let 'em have all that city crime
I'll take your country love anytime
Over in the tractor shed
Using a feed sack for a bed
It's something we was bred to do
Cause our mamas and papas was country too
yeah yeah
I want that lowdown country love
I want that deep down country love
I want that lowdown deepdown country love
Got to have it baby you know what I'm talkin about
Where can we go baby
Down by the lake
In the Astrodome
I got to have your country love baby
I got to have your country love
