Rodoč

Rodoč is a populated settlement in the Mostar municipality, just south of the city of Mostar, making it a suburb. It is 5 km (3.1 mi) from Mostar, 139 km (86 mi) from Sarajevo, 139 km (86 mi) from Dubrovnik and 157 km (98 mi) from Split.

History

During the Bosnian War of the 1990s, the Serb forces temporally occupied the southern parts of the city of Mostar, including Rodoč. They burned down about 80% of the houses. Many people were either killed or taken to camps, predominantly in Bileća or in Montenegro. For the tortures in the camps located in Montenegro couple of people were prosecuted as war criminals in Montenegro. After the liberation of the southern parts of the city and Rodoč, many people returned to their homes.

Rodo

Auguste de Niederhäusern, better known as Rodo (April 2, 1863 – May 21, 1913) was a sculptor and medalist active in Switzerland and France.

Rodo was born in Vevey, and in 1866 moved with his family to Geneva. He attended the École des Arts industriels (1881) and the École des Beaux-Arts (1882) under the direction of Barthélemy Menn, then studied at the Académie Julian with Henri Chapu (1886) and again at the École des Beaux-Arts under Alexandre Falguière. For six years he worked in Auguste Rodin's studio.

In 1895 he received a commission for the Paul Verlaine monument in the Jardin du Luxembourg, which was finally inaugurated in 1911. He died in 1913 during a visit to Munich.
