Rockbird is the second solo album by American singer and actress Debbie Harry, released in November 1986 on Geffen Records.
Rockbird was Harry's second solo album, and came four years after the split of Blondie in 1982. Harry had largely put her music career on hold during the mid-1980s in order to look after boyfriend Chris Stein who had been diagnosed with a serious illness. The album was produced by Seth Justman, a key member of the J. Geils Band. Released in November 1986, there were four variations of the album artwork with the lettering in either green, orange, pink and yellow (with slight variations due to printing techniques). These for colours lettering on the album is done by Stephen Sprouse. Same colours and lettering he used for his Graffiti series of bags and T-shirts for Louis Vuitton. And also a book about Sprouse is issued in four similar coloured covers.
The album peaked at #32 in the UK, and remained in the charts for 11 weeks. Although one of her lowest charting solo albums in the UK to date, it was ironically the highest selling and was certified "Gold" by the BPI in January 1987 for sales in excess of 100,000 copies. Due to lack of record company promotion, the album was far less successful in the US, peaking at #97 on Billboard's album charts.
Some said the Jaybird to the Cockatoo
Want a commitment from inside the zoo
Say hey birdbrain why be sly
Tell me how a Rockbird can learn to fly
Hello Joe whadooya know
I just got back from the animal show
I left my history teacher sitting in the bleachers
And got back in time to see the second half of creature features
Rockbird pretty boy
Rockbird pretty boy
Fast as light
Rockbird pretty boy
Rockbird pretty boy
Meteorite
Back at the compound they start to get up
Looking at the bottom of an empty cup
Say hery they got the tropics with the migratory
Back to basics tweddle dee dee
(Repeat Chorus)
Got to get a go-go get me outa this cage
This Birdland dancing is all the rage
Gotta get me up there for a bird's eye veiw
It's bird walking weather
