Robert S. Travis

Robert S. Travis (born May 2, 1909 in Platteville, Wisconsin) was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly an the Wisconsin State Senate. During World War II, he served in the United States Army crewing a radar truck in the european theater. Travis went to Michigan State University; he was the manager of a dairy product company and was an insurance agent. His son Robert S. Travis, Jr. also served in the Wisconsin Assembly. He died on August 14, 1980 in Platteville, Wisconsin.

Political career

Travis was elected to the Assembly in 1958. He was elected to the Senate in 1954 and re-elected in 1958. Travis was also a delegate to the 1960 Republican National Convention.

Travis (chimpanzee)

Travis (October 21, 1995 – February 16, 2009) was a male common chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) who appeared in American television shows and commercials. In February 2009, Travis and his owner Sandra Herold gained international notoriety after he suddenly attacked Herold's friend Charla Nash and grievously mauled her, blinding her while severing her nose, ears, and both hands, and severely lacerating her face. He was subsequently shot dead on the arrival of the police, after trying to attack an officer.

As an animal actor, Travis had appeared in several television commercials, including spots for Coca-Cola and Old Navy. He had also appeared on The Maury Povich Show, The Man Show, and a television pilot that featured Sheryl Crow and Michael Moore.

Socialization

Travis was born near Festus, Missouri on October 21, 1995, at Mike and Connie Braun Casey's compound, currently named the Missouri Chimpanzee Sanctuary. In a separate incident, Travis' mother Suzy was shot and killed following an escape in 2001. Sandra and Jerome Herold adopted Travis when he was three days old. They raised him at their home at Rock Rimmon Road in the North Stamford section of Stamford, Connecticut. Travis was the Herolds' constant companion and would often accompany them to work and when they went shopping in town. The Herolds owned a towing company, and Travis would pose for photos at the shop and ride with the tow truck, his seatbelt buckled and wearing a baseball shirt. Travis became well known in the town and had been known to greet police officers they would encounter when towing cars.

Travis (band)

Travis are a Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 1990, comprising Fran Healy (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Dougie Payne (bass guitar, backing vocals), Andy Dunlop (lead guitar, banjo, backing vocals) and Neil Primrose (drums, percussion).

The band has released 8 studio albums: Good Feeling (1997), The Man Who (1999), The Invisible Band (2001), 12 Memories (2003), The Boy With No Name (2007), Ode To J. Smith (2008), Where You Stand (2013) and Everything At Once (2016).

Travis have twice been awarded best band at the BRIT Awards, and are often credited for having paved the way for bands such as Coldplay and Keane (Coldplay's Chris Martin has called himself "a poor man's Fran Healy", while saying that Travis "invented" Coldplay "and lots of others"). The band named themselves after the Harry Dean Stanton character Travis Henderson from the film Paris, Texas.

Robert

The name Robert is a Germanic given name, from Proto-Germanic *χrōþi- "fame" and *berχta- "bright". Compare Old Dutch Robrecht and Old High German Hrodebert (a compound of hruod "fame, glory" and berht "bright"). It is also in use as a surname.

After becoming widely used in Continental Europe it entered England in its Old French form Robert, where an Old English cognate form (Hrēodbēorht, Hrodberht, Hrēodbēorð, Hrœdbœrð, Hrœdberð) had existed before the Norman Conquest. Mons Vitruvius

Mons Vitruvius is a mountain on the Moon that is located in the Montes Taurus region just to the north of Mare Tranquillitatis and to the southeast of Mare Serenitatis. This massif is located at selenographic coordinates of 19.4° N, 30.8° E, and it has a diameter across the base of 15 km. It rises to a maximum height of about 2.3 km near the northeastern end. This mountain was named after the crater Vitruvius, located to the south-southeast. (The eponym for this feature is Marcus P. Vitruvius.)

The Apollo 17 mission landed in the Taurus–Littrow valley to the north of this mountain. Several small craters in the vicinity of this peak and the landing site have been assigned names by the IAU. These are listed in the table below.

Robert II (bishop of Ross)

Robert (died c. 1271) was a 13th-century prelate based in the Kingdom of Scotland. He was successively Archdeacon of Ross and Bishop of Ross; he is the second Robert to have held the bishopric of Ross.

Robert can be found as Archdeacon of Ross as early as 6 July 1223, when his name occurred in a document relating to Durham Cathedral; it is not known how long he had been holding that position in 1223, but he is the first known Archdeacon of the diocese.

He probably became Bishop of Ross sometime in 1149; he was consecrated sometime between 21 June 1249 and 20 June 1150.

Turner interpreted a papal mandate of 1256 as sanctioning the increase in the number of canons in the cathedral chapter and authorising the relocation of the cathedral [from Rosemarkie] to Fortrose. Cowan and Easson thought that the cathedral had always been located at Fortrose, but it was simply called Rosemarkie.

Bishop Robert appears, from the evidence of Walter Bower (using an earlier source), to have died in the year 1171. Walter Bower confuses the man who died that year and the builder of the new cathedral with Robert II's predecessor, Robert I.
