Roar News (newspaper)

Roar News is the multi award-winning student newspaper of King's College London. It is editorially independent of both the university and the students' union and has an award-winning website

The newspaper won six awards in 2015, including Best Website, Best Publication and Best Design. In 2014 it won several others including a Mind Media Award and Student Media of the Year.

Roar has existed in various incarnations since 1973, but in 1992 its name was changed from 'Casey L' to 'Roar News' - named after the university's mascot, Reggie the lion. Roar prints three times a year, spending most of its energy on bringing students and staff up-to-the-minute news online. The current editor is Aditi Shorewal.

Former editors, writers and photographers now work for national news outlets such as The Sun, Press Association, The Independent The Daily Mail, Time Out Magazine, The Times and Sky.

History

Roar has existed in various formats, as a magazine, then a tabloid newspaper. It was turned into a full colour, glossy magazine in 2006 but has since been re-branded as a tabloid, borrowing the style of The Sun and The Mirror newspapers in its layout.

Roar (song)

"Roar" is a song by American singer Katy Perry for her fourth studio album, Prism (2013). It was released as the lead single from the record on August 10, 2013. The song was written by Perry, Bonnie McKee, Dr. Luke, Max Martin, and Cirkut, and produced by the latter three. It is a power pop song, containing elements of glam rock and arena rock, with lyrics centering on standing up for oneself and self-empowerment.

"Roar" received generally mixed reviews from music critics; many appreciated its overall production, while others felt that its lyrical content contained "clichés". The song was a commercial success, becoming Perry's eighth non-consecutive number one song on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and also topping charts in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. Additionally, it also reached the top five in most international charts, including France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Switzerland.

To promote the song, Perry performed under the Brooklyn Bridge at the closing ceremony of the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, on The X Factor Australia, at the Sydney Opera House in late October 2013, and on the German TV show Schlag den Raab. Grady Hall and Mark Kudsi directed the song's music video, which features Perry trying to adapt to the jungle where she survived a plane crash, and taming a tiger. It garnered generally mixed reviews from music critics. "Roar" was nominated for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. The song topped the charts in 14 countries and sold 9.9 million copies globally (according to the IFPI).

Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans

Roar is a 2014 Hindi-language Indian feature film written and directed by Kamal Sadanah.

The first look of the film was launched by Salman Khan at an event in Mumbai on 31 July 2014, ahead of the film's release on 31 October 2014. It is an epic tale of a team trying to outsmart the acute senses of the infamous white tiger who is looking for her cub. This film won best visual effects.

Roar was Shot in the dense mangrove forest showcasing the animal-man conflict and the film has aerial visuals of the Sundarbans and over 800 shots with special effects. Director Kamal Sadanah said "We spent four months doing the test shoots and we shot with trained tigers from Los Angeles and Thailand and composited these sequences with the ones taken at Sundarbans with VFX". He concluded saying that he had to take up an online course in visual effects along with his producer Abis Rizvi.

Rhodes (city)

Rhodes (Greek: Ρόδος, Ródos, [ˈroðos]) is the principal city and a former municipality on the island of Rhodes in the Dodecanese, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Rhodes, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. It has a population of approximately 90,000 in its metropolitan area. Rhodes has been famous since antiquity as the site of Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The citadel of Rhodes, built by the Hospitalliers, is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Europe, which in 1988 was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city of Rhodes is a popular international tourist destination.

Geography

The city of Rhodes is situated in the north-east tip of the island and forms a triangle from north to south. It is the smallest municipality of the island in terms of land area and the largest in population. It borders the Aegean Sea to the north, the east and the west and with the municipalities of Ialysos and Kallithea in the south.

Athiri

Athiri (Greek: Αθήρι) or Athiri Aspro is a white Greek wine grape used to make Retsina on the island of Rhodes.

The grape is noted for its lemon character and in other parts of Greece it is often blended with Assyrtiko. In other areas it is blended with Vilana and Ladikino.

Its close association with Rhodes has developed in the use of "Rhodes" as a synonym for the grape that can be appear on Greek wine labels.

David Rhodes, stagename Rhodes (stylized RHODES), is a British musician, singer and songwriter from Baldock in Hertfordshire. He released his debut EP Raise Your Love on Hometown Records in October 2013 and released his second EP Morning on Rhodes Music on 12 May 2014. His debut album Wishes was released on 18 September 2015.

Music career

2013: Early career and Raise Your Love EP

Rhodes's music began to spread early 2013 when his demo track "Always" was playlisted on Amazing Radio at the beginning of the summer and then picked up plays from BBC Radio 1. Following a busy summer supporting Rufus Wainwright, Laura Marling and Nick Mulvey in the UK, his debut EP ‘Raise Your Love’ was released on Phil Taggart’s label Hometown Records in October 2013.

2014: Morning EP and live performances

On 12 March 2014, Rhodes unveiled the song "Your Soul" - which was premiered by Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1 as his 'Next Hype' – taken from his second EP ‘Morning’ released on May 11, 2014. On this EP, Rhodes recorded alongside Ian Grimble and Tim Bran/Roy Kerr, producers who have been previously working with the likes of London Grammar and Daughter.
