Brave (Kate Ceberano album)

Brave is the third studio album by Australian singer-songwriter Kate Ceberano, and was her first solo foray into pop after two previously more adult-oriented albums. The album was released in early 1989 by Regular Records. ARIA has certified the album for triple platinum sales in Australia.

Album history

A mix of contemporary pop and dance tracks and soul covers, Brave became a major success in the Australian charts, firmly establishing Ceberano as one of Australia's premier artists, and would become the most commercially successful album of her solo career.

Brave also established Ceberano's role as a chameleon of sorts, following on from successful jazz and adult oriented releases, Brave seemed to, in part, pay homage to her dance roots as a vocalist in Australian band I'm Talking, whilst also incorporating more adult oriented fare.

The album spawned a succession of four Top 40 singles; "Bedroom Eyes", "Love Dimension", "Brave"/"Young Boys Are My Weakness" and "That's What I Call Love", all of which achieved strong rotation on Australian radio and helped propel the album to triple platinum status.

Brave (Kelis song)

"Brave" is a song performed by American recording artist Kelis, taken from her fifth studio album, Flesh Tone. The up-tempo electro-dance song was written by Kelis, will.i.am, Jean Baptiste and James Fauntleroy, and produced by Benny Benassi and Alle Benassi. It was released on 6 January 2011, as the album's fourth single by will.i.am music and Interscope Records. Kelis has also re-recorded the track in 'simlish' for video game The Sims 3: Late Night.

Music video

A music video, directed by Rankin, for the single was uploaded to YouTube on November 19, 2010. The video shows a still camera of Kelis, wearing a white top with a white background behind her with the camera moving while a large beat is being played.

Brave (Jennifer Lopez album)

Brave is the sixth studio album by American entertainer Jennifer Lopez. It was released on October 4, 2007, by Epic Records. Inspired by her marriage with Marc Anthony and taking influences by Jamiroquai and Sade, "Brave" features prominently samples from old classics, mixing up with funk and R&B music. Brave sees Lopez working with new collaborators, such as Ryan Tedder, Midi Mafia, Jonathan Rotem, Bloodshy, Lynn & Wade LLP, The Clutch and others, while also working with long-time collaborator Cory Rooney throughout the album.

The album received a mixed reception from critics, with some complimenting its production, calling the album one of her strongest albums to date, while many called it a formulaic and bland album. Commercially, the album was a commercial disappointment, becoming her first album to miss the top-ten on the Billboard 200 chart, while also missing the top-twenty in the UK, Australia and other important markets. It has sold only 650,000 copies worldwide.

Liberman (album)

Liberman is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Vanessa Carlton, released on October 23, 2015, through Dine Alone Records. It is the follow up to Carlton's 2011 album Rabbits on the Run and marks her first release since signing with Dine Alone Records. The title of the album comes from an oil painting made by Carlton's late grandfather, whose given surname was Liberman.

Background and writing

Following the 2011 release Rabbits on the Run, Carlton took time off to get married, start a family and write another album. She tells CBS News that these changes in her life are reflected in Liberman's songs and that she "wanted the whole album to feel like an escape type of album, where you put it on and you feel like you're in this dreamy state."

To avoid preconceived notions, demos recorded were sent to Dine Alone Records without Carlton's name attached. Label president Joel Carriere recalls hearing the demos and tells The Toronto Star, "The songs were amazing, it was atmospheric, it kind of fit into what we’re all into ... and we never would have guessed it was Vanessa Carlton because her voice has developed so much since her pop songs 14 years ago and the songwriting had obviously changed. We were, like: 'Yeah, we want to do this. But what is it we’re doing?'"

River (typography)

In typography, rivers, or rivers of white, are gaps in typesetting, which appear to run through a paragraph of text, due to a coincidental alignment of spaces. The rivers can occur regardless of the spacing settings, but are most noticeable with wide inter-word spaces caused by full text justification or monospaced fonts. Rivers are less noticeable with proportional fonts, due to narrow spacing. Another cause of rivers is the close repetition of a long word or similar words at regular intervals, such as "maximization" with "minimization" or "optimization".

Rivers occur because of a combination of the x-height of the typeface (whether the type appears broad or skinny), the values assigned to the widths of various characters, and the degree of control over character spacing and word spacing. Broader typefaces are more prone to exhibit rivers, as are the less sophisticated typesetting applications that offer little control over spacing. Increased sentence spacing can also exaggerate the river effect. More sophisticated typesetting applications divide individual characters into larger numbers, giving more numerical control. They also offer more comprehensive libraries of "kerning pairs" that tell the application how much space to allow between all possible combinations of letter pairs.

River (AKB48 song)

"River" is the 14th major single by the Japanese idol group AKB48, released on 21 October 2009. It was the first AKB48's single to top the Oricon weekly singles chart, having sold 179,000 copies in its first week. Thus it became the group's best selling single, beating "Namida Surprise!", which by then had sold 144,000 copies in 18 weeks.

Release

The single was released in two versions: Regular Edition (通常盤) (CD+DVD, catalog number KIZM-43/4); and Theater Edition (劇場盤) (CD only, catalog number NMAX-1087). The bonuses for the first-press limited edition included a handshake event ticket for various locations (Sendai, Nagoya, Osaka, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Sapporo, Tokyo), as well as a voting card for the AKB48 Request Hour Set List Best 100 2010. On the theater edition, the bonuses included a handshake event ticket (Tokyo Big Sight, SKE48 Theater), a special performance ticket lottery (live stage performances, karaoke competition, AKB meeting), and a random member photo.
