Girls (Beastie Boys song)

"Girls" is a song by American hip hop group the Beastie Boys, released in 1987 as well as the music video as the seventh and final single from their debut album Licensed to Ill. Like "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)", this song was never performed live and it is one of the few songs on the album that are not in the vein of their standard rap songs.

Song structure and lyrics

The song is the shortest on the album, lasting just over 2 minutes long. The song's instrumental is relatively simple, consisting of a drum beat being played over a vibraphone loop, with occasional pauses. The song contains many similarities to the song "Shout" by The Isley Brothers.

Lyrically, the song talks about the narrator (Ad-Rock)'s desire for women. He recalls a experience from two years before with a woman who had an interest in the narrator's band mate MCA. MCA did not share her feelings and permitted the narrator to pursue her romantically. Ad-Rock takes the woman for a walk near a body of water and asks for her hand. The woman rejects his proposal. She moves to a far away location but in the present day the narrator sees her back in town showing interest in his other band mate, Mike D.

Girls (Kid Cudi song)

"Girls" is a song by American hip hop recording artist Kid Cudi, released on April 2, 2013 as the fourth single from his third studio album Indicud (2013). The song, produced by Cudi himself, features a guest appearance from fellow American rapper Too $hort. The song has since peaked at #3 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles.

Background

On April 2, 2013 Cudi released "Girls" for digital download via the iTunes Store, as the album's fourth single. The song features a verse from fellow American rapper Too Short, and was produced by Cudi. The song would later be released to Rhythm/Crossover radio on April 9, 2013. "Girls" contains an interpolation of "Pretty Girls", written by The Kids of Widney High (Carl Brown, Shelly Goodhope, Tanesa Tavin, Daniel Brattain, Veronica Mendez, Darrell Mitchell, Albert Cota, Chantel Roquemore and Michael Monagan). The song also contains a sample of "Bitches (Reply)" as performed by Dion "DJ Jimi" Norman.

Girls (Brazilian band)

Girls were a Brazilian girl group of pop music formed in 2013 through the program Fábrica de Estrelas, transmitted by the network-TV Multishow. The group is composed of Ani Monjardim, Bruna Rocha, Caroline Ferreira, Jennifer Nascimento and Natascha Piva. The group's first album, the homônio Girls, was released on September 3 by Sony Music, bringing the participation of Negra Li, Mika Borges, Aggro Santos and Suave, besides compositions of integral NX Zero, Gee Rocha and Di Ferrero. The first single, "Acenda a Luz", was released on August 8, and the disc also removed two promotional singles, "Monkey See Monkey Do" and "Shake Shake".

On January 30, 2014, it was announced the end of the group by producer Rick Bonadio amid great controversy due to own Sony Music claims not to have more interest in the work of girls, thereby precluding the continuity of the group.

Zki & Dobre, known by many aliases, but currently most well known as Chocolate Puma (alternatively as The Good Men and as The Goodmen), are a Dutch house music duo from Haarlem, Netherlands. They comprise Gaston Steenkist ("Dobre") and René ter Horst ("DJ Zki"). They have produced multiple dance hits under various group names since the early 1990s. Their biggest international hits remains "Give It Up in 1993 credited as The Good Men and "Who Do You Love Now?" in 2001 credited to Riva featuring Dannii Minogue. They also founded their own record label Pssst Music.

Career

As the Goodmen, their biggest hit was "Give It Up", a 1993 house music track based upon samba styled percussion and the simple, repeating vocal line of the song title. The percussion for the release was inspired by an earlier recording by Sérgio Mendes.

The song hit #1 on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in 1993 and made a brief appearance on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at #71. After being re-released in late 1993, it reached #5 in the UK Singles Chart.

"Say (All I Need)" is a song by American pop rock band OneRepublic. It is the third single released from their debut album Dreaming Out Loud and follows the global success of their previous top ten singles, "Apologize" and "Stop and Stare". OneRepublic vocalist Ryan Tedder has commented that "Say (All I Need") is his "favorite track on the album." All five members of the band Ryan Tedder, Zach Filkins, Drew Brown, Eddie Fisher and Brent Kutzle share writing and composing credits on the song. The single was released in the UK on June 2, 2008 and features their Live Lounge cover of Duffy's single "Mercy". The single was released on June 24, 2008 in the United States.

The song was recorded at Rocket Carousel Studios in Culver City by producer Greg Wells and engineer Drew Pearson. The chorus of the song was featured during the most recent season of The Hills. Also it featured in the pilot episode of the TV series, The Vampire Diaries.
