Rio is a recording of solo piano improvisations by Keith Jarrett, recorded live at the Teatro Municipal, Rio de Janeiro on April 9, 2011, released as a two CD set on the ECM label.
Rio is an album by Uri Caine which was recorded and released on the Winter & Winter label in 2001. The album explores Brazilian music, and features of large ensemble of Braziliam musicians with an emphasis on percussion.
In his review for Allmusic, Glenn Astarita notes that "With this effort, Caine seemingly derives inspiration from the rhythmic structures while melding his thematic inventions into the percussionists' temporal planes. Nonetheless, the artist captures and illustrates the less commercial side of what might be considered indigenous Brazilian music".
On All About Jazz C. Michael Bailey said "The Brazilian music presented here is not the plush Bossa one would expect. It is more of an abstract look at the indigenous popular music, that music that might have less appeal in the United States if entrusted in lesser hands that Caines. The excellent results are a collections of Brazilian vignettes, little Latin confections finely crafted to be had and eaten too. Caine surrounds himself with Brazilian musicians, most particularly percussionists who weave their special magic throughout the music. It is as if we are privy to a Rio radio dial, spinning form one station to the next and listening every once and awhile". Writing in JazzTimes, Bill Shoemaker observed "Playing both piano and Fender Rhodes, Caine is joined by a revolving cast of musicians, singers and drum choruses who consistently coax rhythmically vibrant performances from him. At slower tempi, Caine caresses the lyrical soul of Brazilian music with obvious affection. Rio is a virtual hour in the sun".
And party and bullsh-t...
And party, and party
I stumbled up to the window
Opened the curtains to blinding light
Make up all over the pillow
What went on? what went on?
What went on last night?
You look so sweet while you're dreaming
Holding your bottle of tango red
It isn't even the weekend
Maybe thats, how I know, you're the one for me
Hook:
I wanna party and bullsh-t
And party and bullsh-t (with you)
And party and bullsh-t
And party and bullsh-t
And party, and party
Cause when the sun sets baby
On the avenue
I get that drunk s-x feeling
Yeah, when I'm with you
So put your arms around me baby,
We're tearing up the town
Cause that's just how we do
We got that sweet heart loving
Dancing in the dark
Out in the streets we're running,
Shut down every bar
So, put your arms around me baby
We're tearing up the town
Cause that's just how we do, how we do
Yeah, that's how we do
How we do, that's just how we do
How we do, that's just how we do.
Hungover I think I'm broken
You said the fix is a shot of jack
I said man what are you smoking
But alright, pour a glass and we'll throw em back
I wanna party and bullsh-t
And party and bullsh-t
And party and bullsh-t
And party and bullsh-t
And party, and party
Cause when the sun sets baby
On the avenue
I get that drunk sex feeling
Yeah, when I'm with you
So put your arms around me baby,
We're tearing up the town
Cause that's just how we do
We got that sweet heart loving
Dancing in the dark
Up in the streets we running,
Shut down every bar
So, put your arms around me baby
We're tearing up the town
Cause that's just how we do, how we do-o-o
Yeah, that's how we do
How we do, that's just how we do
How we do, that's just how we do.
How we do, that's just how we do
And party and bullsh-t
And party and bullsh-t
And party and bullsh-t
And party, and party
I wanna party and bullsh-t
And party and bullsh-t
And party and bullsh-t
And party and bullsh-t
And party, and party.
Cause when the sun sets baby
On me avenue
I give that drunk s-x spinning
Yeah, when I'm with you
So put your arms around me baby,
We're tearing up the town
Cause that's just how we do
We got that sweet heart loving
Dancing in the dark
Up in the streets we running,
Shut down every bar
