Ridge Racer 7

Ridge Racer 7 is the seventh console installment in the Ridge Racer series of racing games, released on PlayStation 3. The game has around 40 cars, many of which return from Ridge Racer 6 and the PSP incarnations of the game. There are also 22 courses, available in forward, reverse and mirror mode. The game runs at 1080p resolution and at 60 frames per second. It also features Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound and free online gameplay via the PlayStation Network.

The game was first unveiled at the 2006 E3 event in a teaser trailer, and the first trailer of game footage was shown at the 2006 Tokyo Game Show.

Like many other games in the series, it features a full motion video opening that stars Reiko Nagase.

The game has since been re-issued under Sony's "Platinum" and "The Best" budget lines.

A patch was made available in October 2010 titled "Ridge Racer 7 3D License Version" that enables Ridge Racer 7 to be played in 3D.

Gameplay

As in previous games within the Ridge Racer series, the gameplay centers on high speed circuit racing featuring "drift" handling, where the player slides the car around turns without great loss of speed. New features in this iteration include car body and engine customization which can have an impact on the performance, handling and nitrous boost system of the car. Ridge Racer 7 also actively encourages players to slipstream other cars, whereas previous iterations did not mention that this technique increases speed.

Ridge Racer 64

Ridge Racer 64 is a racing game developed by Nintendo Software Technology for the Nintendo 64 in 2000. It features tracks from Ridge Racer and Ridge Racer Revolution and its very own set of desert tracks exclusive to the Nintendo 64, called Renegade. Variations on these tracks make for a total of 20 tracks in the game.

While largely based on its series predecessor, Ridge Racer Type 4, RR64 has a distinctive arcade feel like the early installments of the series. It also has a secret Galaga '88 themed mini game included like in Ridge Racer Revolution. Ridge Racer 64 was the first title in the series that was not released in Japan.

Game Modes

Ridge Racer V

Ridge Racer V (RRV) is an arcade racing game developed and published by Namco for the Sony PlayStation 2. Focusing on high-speed drift racing in the fictional Ridge City, the game features 7 tracks, 21 vehicles and 5 modes of play.

Gameplay

In Ridge Racer V the player is a racing driver taking part in events across Ridge City in a variety of fictional cars. The focus is on accessible and fun driving rather than simulating how a car behaves in the real world; as such the player is encouraged to powerslide around most corners by tapping the brake when entering the turn. Racing on RRV is divided into different race formats. The primary mode is Grand Prix, a series of structured championships completion of which rewards the player with new cars. Other modes include Time Attack, a long distance endurance race called the 99 Trial and free runs on any of the unlocked tracks. Two players can also take part in a split-screen race against one another. A special race is unlocked after the player fulfills certain requirements: it features the arcade game characters Pac-Man in a roadster and Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde on scooters. Winning this race unlocks the special characters for use in other game modes. Boss cars can be won by defeating the bosses in the game's Duel mode after fulfilling certain requirements. After all 4 bosses are defeated in Duel mode, Battle Royal mode is unlocked, allow the player to choose any boss cars and challenge all 4 bosses in a race (including ones the player have selected).

Rave Racer

Rave Racer (レイブレーサー, Reibu Rēsā) is an arcade racing game that was released by Namco on 16 July 1995; it runs on Namco System 22 hardware, and could be played by two people per cabinet for up to eight players total when up to four of them were linked together. It is the third (and last, until Ridge Racer V: Arcade Battle in 2000) arcade title in the Ridge Racer series and the follow-up to Ridge Racer and Ridge Racer 2 - and it added three new tracks to the original one, twelve new songs to the original five, force feedback steering and improved car and racetrack graphics. The way the tracks were designed also allowed multiple routes to be chosen around the courses, but some of them took more time than others to complete a full lap of the track.

A Microsoft Windows 95, 98, and NT version was originally under development for the PowerVR graphics processor, but was cancelled, thus no games in the Ridge Racer series were released for Windows until Unbounded.
