Rewari District, Haryana

Rewari district is one of the 21 districts of Haryana state, India. The administrative headquarters of this district, Rewari city is the biggest city in this district. It is located in southern Haryana around 80 kilometres (50 mi) from the capital, New Delhi. Rewari was accorded the status of a district by the Government of Haryana on 1 November 1989.

As of 2011 it was the second least populous district of Haryana, out of 21, after Panchkula.

Divisions

Rewari district is divided into 3 tehsils, namely, Rewari, Bawal, Kosli and 4 sub tehsils, namely, Dharuhera, Dahina, Manethi and Nahar.

Education

Indira Gandhi University Meerpur Rewari along with Ahir College & KLP College are the main colleges of rewari. Ahir college was established before India's independence. At that time Rewari was the only education hub. The department of science of Ahir College Rewari is also notable, in particular for science studies.

Culture

Although all of the festivals are celebrated here with great enthusiasm, the festival of Teej has a special place in the heart of citizens of Rewari. The most colourful Teej is witnessed by this Indian city, every year. People will have very fun in kite riding and special cuisine .being situated near Gurgaon city there is effect of urbanisation and people of Rewari are going away from there roots.

Rewari, Haryana

Rewari (Hindi: रेवाड़ी) is a city and a Municipal Council in Rewari district in the Indian state of Haryana. It is located in south-west Haryana 82 km (51 mi) from old Delhi and 51 km (32 mi) from Gurgaon.

History

Rewari was founded by Nand Ram, an Ahir.

A small Ahir principality was established there in the early century and ruled over the surrounding Ahirwal area.

Medieval

Hemu,the last Hindu Emperor of India, who claimed the throne of Delhi defeating Mughal army of Akbar on 7 October 1556, belonged to Rewari. Hemu, was educated and brought up in Rewari. In between 1553 and 1556, Hemu had fought and won 22 battles in a row across India from Punjab to Bengal before establishing the "Hindu Raj" in Delhi from Purana Quila after his formal coronation. His Haveli (house) still stands in the Qutabpur area of the city. He developed the cannon industry in Rewari, laying the foundation of a metalwork industry in brass, copper sheets and utensils manufacture for which Rewari is still known.

Rewari (Rural) is a census town in Rewari district in the Indian state of Haryana.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, Rewari (Rural) had a population of 4453. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Rewari (Rural) has an average literacy rate of 68%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 77%, and female literacy is 57%. In Rewari (Rural), 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.
