Rogue (vagrant)

A rogue is a vagrant person who wanders from place to place. Like a drifter, a rogue is an independent person who rejects conventional rules of society in favor of following their own personal goals and values.

In modern English language, the term rogue is used pejoratively to describe a dishonest or unprincipled person whose behavior one disapproves of, but who is nonetheless likeable and/or attractive.

History

The word rogue was first recorded in print in John Awdely's Fraternity of Vagabonds (1561), and then in Thomas Harman's Caveat for Common Cursitors (1566).

In England, the 1572 Vagabonds Act defined a rogue as a person who has no land, no master, and no legitimate trade or source of income; it included rogues in the class of idle vagrants or vagabonds. If a person were apprehended as a rogue, he would be stripped to the waist, whipped until bleeding, and a hole, about the compass of an inch about, would be burned through the cartilage of his right ear with a hot iron. A rogue who was charged with a second offense, unless taken in by someone who would give him work for one year, could face execution as a felony. A rogue charged with a third-offense would only escape death if someone hired him for two years.

Rogue (band)

Rogue were a British pop band who were active between 1975 and 1979, comprising Guy Fletcher, Al Hodge and John Hodkinson.

Band formation

In 1975 Fletcher, former Onyx guitarist Hodge, and former If-vocalist Hodkinson formed the soft-rock trio, Rogue, which released several singles, including "Dedication", "Cool Clear Air", "Lay Me Down", "Lady Put The Light Out", "Too Much Too Soon", "One to One", and "Borderline", as well as three albums. Their song "Fallen Angel" was a No. 12 hit in the Netherlands in January 1976; The band disbanded in 1979.

The band also produced a version of "Dedication" for London's Capital Radio, with the first line: "Capital's our local station."
Their song "Dedication" was covered by the Bay City Rollers on their 1976 album Dedication. Released as a single in the US, it made #60 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Frankie Valli's recording of their song "Fallen Angel" went to No. 11 in the UK Singles Chart in May 1976, before being featured in the Broadway show Jersey Boys.

Revolt (Muse song)

"Revolt" is a song by the English rock band Muse from their seventh studio album, Drones (2015). It was released as the third single from the album on 4 November 2015.

Song description

In his review of the album, Gigwise's Andrew Trendell called the song a "squelchy synth-fuelled call to arms and power ballad for the space-age, somewhere between Bryan Adams, Journey and Eurovision". The NME's Mark Beaumont described the song as "a two-speed storm built on monumental riffs".

Music video

The "theatrical" video features the band "performing against a backdrop of dystopian warfare between man and drone". Shot in Prague, the band "wanted the video in black and white only using color to represent revolution". The video was made available on Apple Music, while a 'Virtual Reality' version can be viewed on vrse.com.

Reception

Reaction to the song was mixed. While NME's Mark Beaumont ranked "Revolt" among the band's "most creative songs",Consequence of Sound's Collin Brennan likened it to the "overblown theatrics of Queen". Calling it "a catchy, occasionally rousing song with a couple of neat tricks up its sleeve", he concludes that the song ultimately fails to be the "convincing call to action" it seemingly intends to be.

Revolt (The Dreams album)

Revolt is the second studio album by faroese alternative rock band The Dreams, released on February 22, 2010. Published by Black Pelican and recorded in the Chief Management Studio, it was produced by Chief 1 (Lars Pedersen). The album comprises ten songs all written in English, because they want to reach not only Denmark, also other countries.

Three successful singles were released from this album: "Under the Sun", "Revolt" and "The Optimist".

Release and reception

The disc was able to sell much in Denmark. Their two music videos Under The Sun and Revolt ranked in the top positions.

Revolt (TV network)

Revolt (stylized as "REVOLT") is an American music-oriented digital cable television network that is owned by Sean "Diddy" Combs. It launched on October 21, 2013.

History

As part of its arrangement to acquire a minority interest in NBCUniversal, Comcast Corporation committed to carry several minority-owned networks. The arrangement followed pressure led by Maxine Waters in congressional hearings. In April 2011, Comcast solicited proposals for minority owned networks. In February 2012, Comcast announced distribution arrangements for four networks, including Revolt. The four announced networks and six forthcoming stations are being chosen from among in excess of 100 proposals to begin airing by 2020.

Business plan

The network intends to deliver music videos, live performances, news and interviews. In a statement, Combs described the network as "the first channel created entirely from the ground up in this new era of social media." He also stated "We're building this platform for artists to reach an extraordinary number of people in a completely different way. Revolt will be live, like all great moments in television history." Combs' YouTube announcement of the network presented plans to create a network for the artists by the artists: "It's your channel to do what you want to do, how you want to do it." He further stated his intention for artists to "show your art the way you want to show your art -- uncut, raw, uncensored -- not destined by the charts and who's pop." The network is to be influenced by the dynamic interests of social networking websites. Combs' intended level of visibility on the network is unclear. Combs will partner with MTV veteran Andy Schuon.
